    Virgin Airbus Diverts to St Johns

    What: Virgin Airlines Airbus A-340 en route from London to Washington DC.

    When: May 2011
    Who: 269 passengers
    Why: While en route, a passenger was ill. The flight diverted to DC to get the passenger assistance, and made a safe landing. THe passenger was transported to the Health Sciences Centre and the flight resumed.

    Scifi Space Plane of the future lands in Mesa

    What: Virgin Galactic’s WhiteKnight Two four-engine, twin-fuselage “mother ship.” (experimental plane owned by Richard Branson) en route from Mohave, California to Las Cruces, N.M
    Where: Mesa
    When: Friday Jun. 19, 2009
    Who: 2 pilots
    Why: The plane landed unexpectedly in Mesa after a cockpit alarm sounded.

    Plans to launch the plane into space in 2012 are intact.
