Ryanair Jets Collide at Dublin Airport

RyanairTwo Ryanair jets collided on a taxiway intersection at Dublin Airport, Ireland, shortly before 7 a.m. on October 7.

According to a statement released by the airline, “Two of our aircraft were taxiing slowly to the runway at Dublin Airport this morning…The winglet of one aircraft appears to have scraped the tail of the other…Both aircraft were under the instruction of Dublin Airport Air Traffic Control at the time.”

The statement further said, “There was no impact on customers on board and Ryanair contacted the IAA and worked with them to return both aircraft to stand…Affected customers disembarked, were provided with refreshment vouchers and boarded two replacement aircraft, which departed to Brussels Charleroi and Edinburgh later this morning…Ryanair apologises sincerely to customers for any inconvenience.”

The emergency personnel were called at the scene after the incident and the airport operations were temporarily halted. However, the officials confirmed that normal operations at Dublin airport were resumed shortly afterwards.

Both the Boeing 737 aircrafts are currently being repaired.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) will investigate the incident.

Fender Bender in the Netherlands

On December 13, 2013, at Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport, a US Airways (737-8K2) #N202UW was taxiing when it struck a parked Boeing 737-8K2 belonging to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (PH-BXK).

The winglet of the parked plane was knocked off. Both planes sustained damage. There were no reports of injury, but the incident caused passenger delays.

Turkish Balloon Fairy chimneys crash


A Lindstrand LBL 425A balloon with twenty-five aboard and operated by Anatolian Balloons collided with another balloon. The balloon was flying over volcanoes known in Turkey as “fairy chimneys” when the collision with the other balloon’s basket caused the balloon to rip, and then it crashed.

The three fatalities Kohelman Ellen (76) Maria Luiza Gomes (71) and Mariua Rosas (65) were all Brazilian tourists. Twenty-two were injured. The injured were taken to Nevsehir and Kayseri hospitals.

Two planes collide over Westlake Village


A Cessna 172 and a Cessna 172RG Cutlass collided over Westlake Village eight miles east northeast of Ventura.

The Cutlass, registered to Ameriflyers of Florida LLC made an emergency landing on the Westlake Golf Course, Westlake Village, California. Three aboard sustained minor injuries in a belly landing at 2:15 p.m. near the third hole. They were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The second plane crashed in the Santa Monica Mountains, sparking a brush fire and a search and rescue effort. The pilot was found under the wreckage.

One of the planes had left Santa Monica Airport on an engine test flight and was heading east when it collided with the other.

Bad Day for Helicopters


Didn’t mention this all together yesterday but it was a bad day (or two) for helicopters.

On Mar 19

  • Bristow Academy Inc Schweitzer 269C-1 training flight; chopper lost power and crash-landed Highway US-1 near Titusville, FL. Two aboard, no injuries

On Mar 21

  • Bundespolizei Aérospatiale AS 332L1 Super Puma was in a training exercise in snowy conditions at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. The Super Puma struck the EC-155 while landing, and fell. THe EC-155 pilot died on the scene, and three were injured.
