<p>Authorities said the Cobalt Air 727, a Pilatus PC-12 plane, developed some issues while it was taking off for Lexington, Kentucky. The pilot was attempting to land back when the plane ran off the runway 1 and came to stop in a ditch.</p>
<p>There were two people aboard at the time; both of them were injured. They were taken to Memorial University Medical Centre.</p>

<p>The incident happened when the plane, carrying a student pilot, was attempting touch-and-go landings at the airport.</p>
<p>The pilot Michael Joseph Hughes, of Blairsville, was killed in the crash.</p>

<b>Why: </b>   Pilot Richard J. Halford, 48, and tactical flight officer Shawn A. Smiley, 40 were killed when the low-flying police helicopter they were in hit a power line, fell to a city street and exploded. The officers were searching for a nine year old boy who was later found. The chopper did not hurt anyone on the ground. </p>
<p>Witnesses heard the helicopter and saw a flash of light when the chopper hit the pole. The chopper&#8217;s landing gear was caught in the support cables. The power company assisted authorities in getting it down.</p>

The helicopter has been moved to a secure location as investigators work to piece together what happened.</p>

The businessman and quarterback who were aboard the plane were not hurt. They had flown in on a business trip on the Dewberry Air Corporation Jet, on a plane registered in Dover Delaware.</p>
<p>The pilot was pinned in the plane and had to be cut out was not seriously injured.</p>

<b>Why: </b> After landing at the airport, the plane overran the runway, and avoided the barriers. The gear collapsed and the plane slid downhill, and stopped outside of the perimeter fence.  There were minor injuries reported, and those aboard were hospitalized. The pilot sustained a head injury.</p>
<p>The injuries were described as non-fatal and moderate. There was no fire, though fuel did leak on to the runway and was contained.  There are a couple of cracks on the fuselage. </p>
