<p>According to local police chief Jackson Mulupi, “We received a phone call from one of the conservancy members that there was an airplane crash within Sera conservancy. I mobilised officers from Sorilibi and Wamba. We rushed to the scene whereby we found one airplane which was trying to take off but crashed about one kilometer from the airstrip.”</p>
<p>The plane was carrying two French filmmakers at the time; both of them were killed in the crash. They were identified as Pierre Creisson, 53, and Thierry Barbier, 56.</p>

<p>According to the Police Spokesman Charles Owino, “It requested an emergency landing when a device suspected to be an explosive was discovered in the lavatory.” The plane was heading from Mauritius to Paris at the time.</p>
<p>The plane landed safely. All 459 passengers and 14 crew members remained unharmed.</p>

<p>The authorities said the plane, en-route from Wajir to Nairobi, landed on its belly due to landing gear failure. None of the 6 people aboard was injured.</p>
<p>The flight operations were temporarily halted at the airport and all incoming flights were diverted to Mombasa airport. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) later released a statement saying, &#8220;Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has concluded the inspection of the runway at JKIA. JKIA Runway 6 has been cleared by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and is now open. Arrival and Departure flight operations have resumed.&#8221;</p>

<p>The Manager of Moi International Airport, Yatich Kagungo, confirmed that the Boeing 737-800 plane, en route from Delhi, India to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, was diverted after running low on fuel. “We were alerted that the plane experienced low fuel gauge as it entered Kenyan airspace, we had to arrange for emergency landing in Mombasa as nearest airport .It was very successful,” he said.</p>
<p>None of the 38 passengers aboard was hurt.</p>

On July 25, 2013, a Yellow Wings Air Services Ltd Cessna U206F Stationair Cessna type 206, registration number 5Y BUG en route from Nanyuk to Wilson Airport disappaeared from radar around 5 pm in the  Aberdares Range, Nairobi Kenya.</p>
<p>The plane went missing Thursday, was found Saturday. Bodies were said to be recovered Sunday.</p>
<p>The three missing swiss, a family of father, mother and daughter, were found beside the wreckage by a Kenya Wildlife Services helicopter.   </p>
<p>The plane struck the side of a mountain in the Aberdares mountains.</p>

Who: 56 passengers, 7 crew<br />
Why: On January 1, 2013, Kenya Airways flight KQ320 was en route when it developed engine problems.</p>
<p>Online sources said that there may have been an engine fire handled by an engine fire suppression system while other sources denied a fire. Passengers reported fire shooting from the left engine.</p>
<p>After less than half an hour in the air, pilots returned to Khartoum where they made a safe landing.</p>

<b>Why: </b>Kenyan Internal Security Minister George Saitoti was killed in a helicopter crash on June 10, 2012.  Clatus MacOwenga had been appointed in the investigation, and the appointment was backdated to January 5 <em>to fill a legal gap for the period when no chief accidents investigator was in office</em>. MacOwenga apparently was running an investigation separate from that of the President Kibaki&#8217;s public inquiry.</p>
<p>Martin Lunani is now the lead investigator, appointed for a period of three years : August 18 to August 17, 2015. The demotion occurred prior to  Mr Macowenga submitting a report. Macowenga will now report to Mr Lunani.</p>
<p>The end of the investigations is scheduled to be October.</p>

<b>Who: </b>  7 aboard, 3 fatalities<br />
<b>Why: </b>  Three Mi-24  were heading to Somalia. A fourth helicopter did not crash.</p>
<p>Capt. William Letti and Lt. Patrick Nahamya were flying a peace-keeping mission when they crashed onto the side of Mount Kenya.  They are calling it a &#8220;hard landing&#8221; i.e. in an &#8220;ungazetted&#8221; area. Two bodies were found on August 14.  A third body was found a day later (August 15)  </p>
<p>One choppers made it to Garissa,  North Eastern Kenya.  18 people from that helicopters safely evacuated.</p>
<p>Two of the helicopters crashed, and were found burned.</p>
<p>A pilot from one of the helicopters sent a message requesting assistance for ground troops and the grounded chopper crew.</p>

<b>Who: </b> 6 aboard<br />
<b>Update: </b>  The Kenyan Commission of Inquiry established to look into the June 10 helicopter crash in the Kibiku Forest in Kenya is set to hold its first formal session on July 16.   The container holding the wreckage will be stored at the Kenya Police Air-Wing facility at the Wilson Airport.</p>
<p>The Kenya Police Airwing Unit Commandant Rodgers Mbithi will be appearing as the first witness.</p>
<p>The pilots involved, Captain Nancy Gituanja and Luke Oyugi, underwent pilot training in the Ukraine in April 2009.  </p>
<p>According to commission members, the intent of the commission is &#8220;&#8230;not to apportion blame, but to prevent occurrence.&#8221; </p>
<p>Fatalities included Minister of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security George Saitoti and his permanent secretary Orwa Ojode, pilots Luke Oyugi and Nancy Gituanja and bodyguards Inspector Joshua Tonkei and Sergeant Thomas Murimi.</p>

<b>Why: </b>   The team put together to investigate the June 10 crash has visited the crash site and said they will begin mapping the area.  A representative of the victims will be at the team meetings in an effort to promote transparency.  Two Kenyan Ministers were aboard the helicopter.</p>

<b>Who: </b>  6 aboard, 6 fatalities<br />
<b>Why: </b> Minister of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security George Saitoti and his permanent secretary Orwa Ojode,  pilots Luke Oyugi and Nancy Gituanja and bodyguards Inspector Joshua Tonkei and Sergeant Thomas Murimi, died in a helicopter crash in Ngong Forest in the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya.  The remains were badly burned. There were no survivors. </p>
<p>The helicopter was en route to a church service.</p>
<p>Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki declared three days of official mourning, and said a full investigation into the crash is planned. &#8220;On behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya I send my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives of the six Kenyans.&#8221; </p>

<b>Why: </b> While landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the plane veered off the runway on to soft ground, shutting down the airport and causing delays for the rest of the day. Passengers were evacuated with no injuries reported.  Flights were diverted to Mombasa and Entebbe.</p>

<p><b>What: </b> Cezanne Air Express Cessna 401A<br />
<b>Where: </b> 10km west of Nairobi, Kenya<br />
<b>When: </b> Oct 21, 2011<br />
<b>Who: </b>  2 fatalities, 3 aboard<br />
<b>Why: </b>  The flight took off from Wilson Airport taking Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam papers to Marsabit and Lodwar and crashed. Witnesses describe the flight as spinning out of control before it crashed near a school.  Kenya Red Cross Action team and Emergency Medical Services (Eplus Kenya) responded.</p>
<p>The pilot and two passengers were hospitalized at Karen Hospital. Two died from the crash, one at the hospital. One passenger is still alive in critical condition.</p>
