BA Flight Diverts to Siberia due to Smoking Smartphone
British Airways flight BA18 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Irkutsk city of Siberia, Russia, on August 21.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en-route from South Korea’s Incheon International Airport to London’s Heathrow airport, was diverted after a passengers’ smartphone began emitting smoke due to a ‘thermal runaway’.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were 205 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.
The plane was able to resume its journey after 3 hours.
