Qatar Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Djibouti

Qatar Airways flight QR-1428 made an emergency landing in Djibouti, on July 24th.

The Boeing 787-800 plane heading from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Doha, Qatar, was diverted after the crew noticed a technical fault.

The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Daallo Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing after Explosion Blew Hole in the Fuselage

DaalloDaallo Airlines flight D3159 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mogadishu, Somalia, on February 2nd.

The Airbus A321 plane took off for Djibouti, but had to return shortly afterwards after an explosion sparked fire and blew a hole in the fuselage.

The plane landed back uneventfully. There were 74 passengers and crew members aboard at the time; two of them sustained minor injuries.

The incident is under investigation.

All 25 Survived after U.S. Marine Helicopter Crashed into Arabian Sea

SeaA U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea on September 1.

The helicopter belonging to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit crashed during landing on the Mesa Verde. According to the press release issued by the Navy, “The aircraft was carrying the Marines and sailors back to USS Mesa Verde from training ashore in nearby Djibouti.”

All 25 persons aboard the helicopter, including 17 Marines and 8 Navy sailors, were safely recovered. “Three individuals are reported to have sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash,” the press release said.

The U.S. Navy and the Marines in AFRICOM units are jointly investigating the incident.
