Two Killed as Biplane Crashes During Air Show in Russia

A biplane crashed in Balashikha, Russia, on September 2nd.

The An-2 biplane was participating in an air show when it went down.

The plane was carrying two people at the time; both of them were killed in the crash.

The cause of crash is being investigated.

Small Plane Crashed in Alberta; Pilot Killed

A small plane crashed in an open area in 37 Cottonwood Drive, Blackfalds, Alberta, on the afternoon of October 6th.

The Steen Skybolt, an aerobatic biplane, presumably crashed due to engine problem.

The pilot, who was the only person onboard, was killed in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Stunt Plane Crashes during Air Show in Oregon; Pilot Killed

A Stearman biplane went down during the Air show of the Cascades at Madras Municipal Airport, Madras, Jefferson County, Oregon, on August 27th.

The accident occurred while the pilot Marcus Paine was attempting to perform a loop.

The pilot was reported dead on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

1 Killed, 1 Injured as Tiger Moth Plane Crashes in Australia

A vintage Tiger Moth plane crashed on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, on December 28.

The biplane, operated by Gold Coast-based Tiger Moth Joy Rides, went down shortly after taking off from an airstrip in Norwell.

A 58-year-old sightseer from New South Wales was killed in the crash. The 21-year-old pilot, who was the only one aboard sustained injuries and was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

The accident is under investigation.

Biplane Crashed in Liberty Township, 2 Killed

A two-seater aerobatic biplane crashed in the backyard of a house near Sunrise View Circle in Liberty Township, Ohio, at about 8:54 a.m. on September 20.

The plane immediately caught fire after crash and both men aboard were killed. The identities of victims have not yet been released.

The authorities believe that the plane took off from the Butler County Regional Airport.

The cause of crash is under investigation.

Pitts Biplane Flips during Emergency Landing in Oceanside

Pitts biplaneA single-engine biplane went down and flipped over, while making an emergency landing, in a vacant field in Oceanside, California, at about 11:30 a.m. on August 5.

According to the FAA, the engine of the Pitts Biplane failed midair after it took off from Carlsbad’s McClellan-Palomar Airport. The pilot was attempting to divert it to Oceanside airport when it went down in a nearby field.

There were 2 people aboard at the time of incident; Lance Murray, the pilot and Daniel Harabagiu, his passenger. Both of them suffered only minor scratches.

The FAA and the NTSB is investigating the incident.

Biplane Lands in Emergency at Torrey Pines Golf Course

BiplaneA 1929 vintage biplane made an emergency landing due to mechanical problems. The plane landed at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, located at 11480 Torrey Pines Park Road in San Diego, California,

The incident happened at 11:40 a.m. on June 10 when the engine of the Travel Air 400 began “running rough.”

The pilot, Bill Oglesby, was flying with two tourists aboard. He took no chances and decided to make an emergency landing.

The biplane is used to provide the tourists a bird’s-eye view of the scenic coastline and local attractions in San Diego. Barnstorm Adventures website says it charges $289 for a 40-minute trip.

The passengers were fully refunded.

Biplane Crashed during Thunder Over Solano Air Show in California; Pilot Killed

biplaneA 1944 Stearman biplane crashed on a runway at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California.

The incident happened at about 2 p.m on May 4 during the Thunder Over Solano air show, when the pilot was performing an acrobatic aerial maneuver very close to the ground. The specific stunt is known as “cutting a ribbon” where the plane is flown close to ground in inverted position and a knife from the plane is thrown to cut a ribbon, just off the ground.

Air force officials have identified the pilot as 77 year old Edward Andreini, belonging to Half Moon Bay. According to the FAA records, Andreini owned the 1944 Boeing E75 Super Stearman.

FAA and NTSB officials are investigating the accident.
