On April 4, 2013 about 12:30 am, a Leair Charter Service Limited Cessna 402C was landing in the process of a medical evacuation and collided with a parked truck being used to illuminate the runway.

The pilot and passenger in the plane survived.

The vehicle caught on fire, killing three occupants. The fatalities are named in the video.

Additionally, the video calls for the need for lights on the runway.

Official statement:
Tragic aviation accident in Mayaguana
The Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin
Minister of Transport and Aviation
In the early hours of this morning I was informed of an aviation accident in Mayaguana resulting in the tragic death of 3 people. I am advised that all 3 persons are residents of the island of Mayaguana. A preliminary report from the Department of Civil Aviation says that on 4th April, 2013 at approximately 12:30 a.m. a Cessna C402 owned by Leair Charter Service Limited with a crew of 2 on board was making a landing at night for an emergency evacuation flight with two vehicles strategically placed to outline the useable portion of the runway. It is reported that the aircraft made contact with one of the vehicles resulting in the deaths of the 3 passengers in that vehicle.

An investigative team comprising the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Air Accident Investigation and Prevention Unit of the Department of Civil Aviation will fly into Mayaguana at 5 a.m. this morning.

I wish to assure that a full investigation will be carried out by the Department of Civil Aviation into the causes and circumstances surrounding this terrible event. I will report further as information permits. Out of respect for the families, the names of the persons killed will not be disclosed until an official release is made by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of these beloved persons and to the wider community of Mayaguana who share in this loss.

What: Pioneer Caribbean Logistics Limited Twin Star helicopter en route from Marsh Harbour to Baker’s Bay
Where: Great Guana Cay, North Abaco, Bahamas
When: Nov 22, 2012, 1 p.m.
Who: 4 injured, 1 fatality
Why: The party aboard the helicopter was landing at a luxury resort community, Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club on Great Guana Cay, when gusty winds blew the chopper into a spin and out of control. The helicopter’s rotor blades struck the ground near the Baker’s Bay townhomes, and the tail broke off. The pilot was injured, and hospitalized. One passenger, Lance Valdez, died on impact.

Valdez founded Pioneer Capital and lived in New York before he and his family moved to the Bahamas.

Jeffrey Soffer was also aboard the plane. Soffer was injured along with Dan and Paula Riordan. Soffer owns the Fountainebleau Miami Beach, condos in Las Vegas, the Bahamas and Washington D.C and is an investor in Turnberry Associates. Dan Riordan is also with Turnberry. The injured were taken by boat to Marsh Harbour.

From Marsh Harbour, the crash victims were flown by racing-team owner Roger Penske’s private jet to Miami where Soffer and the Riordans were hospitalized at Miami’s Ryder Trauma Center. One of the injured was taken to Nassau.

Civil Aviation Department investigators traveled to Abaco to begin examining the crash. The wreckage has been moved to a secure location. The Bahamas Ministry of Transportation and Aviation has completed its preliminary report on the Abaco helicopter crash. The report indicates that the airframe, engine and propeller manufacturers and designers have been notified of the accident.

The post American Killed in Bahama Helicopter Crash first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.

Where: Grand Harbor Cay, Berry Islands Bahamas
When: 16-JUL-2012
Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
Why: A Daytona Beach couple, Alan and Kathleen Van Nimwegen departed from Marsh Harbour International Airport about 9 am on Monday and went missing when they lost communications with aviation officials Monday afternoon. The couple regularly made the flight, usually on weekends.

Rescuers are searching Great Harbour Cay, Bahamas, near the Berry Islands where some debris and an oil sheen in the water has been sighted. They lived at a Spruce Creek Fly-In residence. Both were licensed pilots.

The flight is still missing, not to be confused with the Saturday crash of Bahaman pilot Kenneth Carey and passenger, Dexter Adderley en route from Fort Lauderdale to New Providence who crash-landed in Bimini.

The post Florida Couple Missing in Bahamas first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.

What: M & W Aviation LLC Cirrus SR22 GTS en route from Kendall-Tamiami Executive to Port au Prince
Where: Off the coast of Andros, Bahamas
When: Jan 7 2012, 1 pm
Who: 2 aboard, no fatalities
Why: After the Cirrus engine failed, a father and daughter from Birmingham Alabama on a humanitarian mission deployed the plane’s parachute and ended up in a raft in the sea after their airplane crashed two miles off the coast of the Bahamas.

After their distress call to ATC Miami Center of Aircraft Emergency at around 12: 15 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard sent a HC-144 Ocean Sentry on reconnaissance and located their raft. Richard McGlaughlin, 59, and Elaine McGlaughlin, 25 were retrieved from their inflatable onto a Jayhawk chopper.
