Kent County sheriff’s Sgt. Russ Larson confirmed that a New Mexico man who was taking the test flight in the aircraft owned by a local resident, was killed in the crash. He was identified as Bryan Bowker, 67, of Edgewood.

Authorities said that the plane successfully took off and landed once but crashed during a second take off attempt. Jeff Ostrander, who runs a flight school at Lowell Airport, said, “He had been doing some practicing with the aircraft, taxing up and down the runway to become familiar with the ground handling characteristics…I think what probably happened is a narrow dynamic stall where in the wing is held at such angle to the wind that no longer provides normal lift and airplanes do not fly in that condition.”

The FAA is investigating the crash.

The post Ultralight Plane Crash at Lowell Airport Kills a Man first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.

The pilot, Nicholas Peterson of Arizona, was able to survive the crash; he was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, Ottawa for treatment. However, his passenger, identified as Jeffrey Carpenter, 50, of Chicago, died and his body was removed from the River next morning at about 6:45 a.m.

The pilot told the officials that the accident happened due to some engine problems in the aircraft.

According to Chief Mick Garrison of Marseilles Fire Protection District, the plane took off from the headquarters of Skydive Chicago, located nearby. He also said, “We believe it happened about 8:30 and the one individual was able to get out of the crash and he later called for help shortly after 10 [p.m.] or thereabouts.”

The FAA along with the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office are investigating the accident.

The post Ultralight Crashes in Fox River; 1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.

After an all night search, a father and his ten year old son missing aboard a Aveko VL-3 Evolution ultralight were found in a marshland near the Lukna river in Paluknys, Lithuania near a wooded area.

The plane went missing after dusk on April 19th and was not found until the 20th. Border guards and reconnaissance helicopters engaged in the search. The rescuers were unable to provide assistance to the victims. Police, aviation, safety experts, and disaster site rescue teams assisted in the search and recovery.

Investigators suggest there was an engine failure and spin, leading to the accident, which occurred along the route where the craft would have turned.
