Lufthansa Flight Attendant Union Strike Cancels 1200 flights

For the third time this week, Lufthansa flight attendants walked off the job.

The strike by Unabhaengige Flugbegleiter Organisation, (UFO) has led to passengers being stranded at airports (1500 in Frankfurt and Munich alone) and the cancellation of all but (possibly) 600 flights. Many of the passengers have been booked on other airlines. Lufthansa usually serves some 170,000 passengers daily. Today the strike is spreading to include Germany.

The strike is about a pay dispute. Lufthansa’s “Score” savings program scraps 4500 jobs. The Union is expecting larger potential pay increases.
