Military Jets Escort Hawaii-Bound American Airlines Plane

A Hawaii-bound American Airlines plane was escorted by two fighter jets on May 19th.

American Airlines flight 31 was heading from Los Angeles, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii, when a passenger tried to break into the cockpit. The crew reported the disturbance, which prompted the Pacific Command to dispatch a pair of fighter jets for escort.

The passenger, identified as Turkish national Anil Uskanil, 25, was restrained and subdued before the plane landed in Honolulu.

“The aircraft is currently on the ground, and the individual who disrupted the flight has been detained,” the Department of Homeland Security said.

17 Soldiers Killed after Military Helicopter Crashes in Colombia

A military helicopter crashed near the town of Pensilvania in Caldas Department of Colombia, on June 26th.

The helicopter went down while it was travelling from Quibdo city to the military base at Tolemaida.

Seventeen soldiers were killed in the crash. According to President Juan Manuel Santos, “The soldiers were in the region of Uraba on a reconnaissance flight, many of them were experts in drone aircraft, others were supporting military operations against the National Liberation Army guerrillas.”

It is believed that the accident happened due to poor weather conditions.

Small Plane Crashed in Texas; Fatalities Feared

A small plane crashed between Granger and Taylor in Texas, on April 9th.

Authorities said the eight-seater twin-engine turboprop went down near FM 1331. The plane had taken off from Georgetown airport.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson, “There are going to be fatalities…We just can’t confirm or deny how many are in there until we get it under control down there.”

One Dead, One Injured after Police Helicopter Crashed in Jordan

A Public Security Department helicopter crashed in Salt, western Jordan, on February 2nd.

Authorities said the helicopter was on a night-time training mission when it went down.

The helicopter was carrying two pilots at the time; one of them was killed in the crash while the other one was seriously injured.

The cause of crash is being investigated.
