Three people en route from Alamosa to Ogden made an emergency landing in a Trans Med LLC Cirrus SR22 #N426TF when they experienced some problems with the plane.

But they came in fast, bounced over a hill, rolled, etc, off the runway to a nearby road in Mack Colorado, around 6 pm September 23, 2013. I guess we could call this a runway excursion. It appears to have been quite an excursion from the runway. I suppose we are writing about it here because of the fast landing. We don’t know the problem that forced the pilot to land in Mack.

The pilot and his two passengers apparently suffered very minor injuries that did not prevent them from renting a car and driving from Grand Junction to Ogden.

The NTSB is investigating. The pilot and passengers were not mentioned by name.

Mack is a small town 10 miles east of the Colorado/Utah border in Mesa County, Colorado. We had never heard of it either.

On July 2, a Polyarnye Avialinii airline Mil Mi-8 helicopter en route from Deputatsky (a village) was on a routine flight when air traffic control lost contact. The chopper was flying from the village of Deputatsky to Kazachye village.

The helicopter flew over a pass, encountered severe turbulence reported as “a powerful air stream.” Reports indicate that the helicopter’s tail grazed a hill. The official report says the helicopter was located “45 km north-west of the airport. The helicopter pilot made a hard landing. Because of the strong downdraft helicopter literally pressed to the slope of the hill.” The airport in question refers to the landing strip of origin, near Deputatsky.

The plane crashed in Yakutia 45 kilometers from takeoff. There were 25 passengers and a 3 person crew. Initial reports say fifteen died, but that count has been raised to 19. Fourteen adults and 11 children were among the passengers.

Search and rescue were deployed as well as emergency responders, including thirty rescuers from Far Eastern regional search and rescue team, and experts of Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations of Emergency Psychological Aid Centre, and Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

A Piper Cherokee N9160Q, on a flight from Honolulu to Maui declared mayday with engine problems three miles from the airport at 5:40 p.m. and made an emergency landing on Maui, Hawaii a quarter-mile down the beach from Pakele Place.

Witnesses said the plane “was 50 to 75 feet in the air, rocking the wings and his engine was off.” None of the four men aboard were injured. The passengers were in Maui after playing in a U.S. Tennis Association tournament on Oahu. The plane sustained some damage. A local described firemen, police, rescue crew and tennis players traipsing through their house from the crash scene near the beach.

On March 27, 2013, a Líder Táxi Aéreo Bell 412SP was en route from Rio de Janeiro to an oil platform (Petrobras P-7 rig) with three people aboard when it made an emergency landing near an oil platform Bacia de Campos Brazil.

Líder Táxi Aéreo and Petrobras say it was a controlled landing.

The three crew were able to use a lifeboat.

The helicopter’s flotation device was activated and the chopper floated to the surface but capsized.

The owner of the helicopter made this statement:
“The aircraft performed a controlled landing in the water near the platform Petrobras P-7. The three occupants of the aircraft were immediately rescued and are doing fine. The freighter Petrobras, with the technical leader, are already providing the withdrawal of aircraft and general cargo. All measures of investigation are ongoing and all bodies were triggered. We reiterate that all safety procedures, maintenance and training are up to date and used properly.”

Petrobras reported the incident to the (Brazilian) ANP, Navy and Air Force who will be investigating.

The post Helicopter Crash off the Coast of Brazil first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.
