A Vietnam Airlines ATR-72 with 45 aboard en route from Cat Bi to Da Nang developed problems landing in Da Nang.

On landing, one of the plane’s two landing gear wheels was missing. No one aboard was injured.

The passengers had already left the airport by the time techs discovered the front shaft of the plane had broken off on one side, resulting in the loss of the wheel.

The plane had last been inspected on Sept 21.

Cat Bi and Da Nang airports have been searched for the lost wheel, but it is still lost.

Mr. Julio Contreras – President of Allen Air Club was flying a Piper PA-11 Cub Special on May 10, 2013 and on landing at the Aeropuerto Arturo Humbert in Argentina, the plane flipped–a wheels up landing.

Volunteer firemen, police, airport staff and members of the aeroclub responded to the scene.

The cause of the accident is being attributed to excessive braking. Local news in Argentina is calling it just a scare. The pilot suffered a bump on the forehead, but is otherwise okay. He told reporters “IT WAS A BAD LANDING, SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE WHO FLIES. I ADMIT THAT WAS MY MISTAKE AND DO NOT REALLY KNOW IF SMUG, WANTING TO PLAY SHORT, I TOUCHED THE BRAKES A LITTLE MORE. THIS IS AN AIRCRAFT THAT HAS A TRAIN CONVENTIONAL WHEELS THAT ARE MORE LIBERATED LATER, STOPPED AND TURNED VERY SLOW. BUT I’M FINE, BUT WITH A BIG RAGE AND PAIN OF THE SOUL BECAUSE BREAKING A PLANE IS LIKE THAT YOU DAMAGE A CHILD … AND ANGER COMPARED TO SOMEONE WHO KICKS A PENALTY AND MISSES. IT WAS A VERY SIMPLE BEAT, CAME TO REFUEL AND BRAKED MORE, IS AN AIRCRAFT THAT HAS THE BRAKES VERY JEALOUS, MAYBE A LITTLE SMUG I WANT TO LAND SHORT, I WAS WRONG. On January 7, 2013, on a training flight, a Piper Cherokee VH-JXR with only the pilot aboard took off. He noticed a problem with flying the plane and did a flyby over the airport where his instructor discovered visually that the plane had lost a right rear wheel during takeoff from Mangalore Airport Australia.

The pilot circled to burn fuel, and talked with his instructor and emergency teams. He landed the plane safely on two wheels.

The 21 year old Chinese pilot trainee made a safe landing with emergency crews on standby. The pilot had 120 hours of flight experience. English is his second language.

What: Sol Linéas Aéreas Saab 340A en route from Mendoza to Neuquén to Comodoro Rivadavia.
Where: El Plumerillo airport, Mendoza Argentina
When: Jan 2, 2013
Who: 33 aboard, 30 passengers, 3 crew, no fatalities
Why: On takeoff, the Sol Linéas Aéreas flight exited the runway with a jammed wheel.

A wing touched the ground and a propeller broke. While there was damage to the plane, and no fatalities, the passengers were reported as being in a panic, with women and children screaming and one person possibly having a nervous breakdown.

To paraphrase Sol’s statement:
“The aircraft performed maneuvers 8R5420 taxiway but transitioned off the track and had to interrupt operation.

Emergency services were available. Passengers were provided another Aerolineas flight. Many passengers praised the pilot for handling a dangerous situation that resulted in no injuries reported.

Passengers said they were told a locked wheel caused them to end up on the grass.

The post Sol Linéas Aéreas Exits Runway with Propellor, Wing Damage first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.
