Brazil Supreme Court Judge Overseeing Corruption Probe Killed in Plane Crash

A small plane crashed in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 19th.

The plane had taken off from Sao Paulo shortly before it went down near the coastal town of Paraty.

The plane was carrying 3 people, including Brazilian supreme court Justice Teori Zavasck. All of them were killed in the crash.

Justice Zavasck was overseeing an investigation into a billion-dollar bribery scandal involving a group of elected officials.

Light Aircraft Crashes at Airport in Malta; 5 Killed

A light aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Malta International Airport, Malta, on October 24th.

The Fairchild Metroliner was carrying military officers on a surveillance mission on behalf of the French government, at the time.

All 5 people including 3 officials and 2 crew members were killed in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Five Killed in Sudan Military Plane Crash

A Sudanese military plane crashed in El Obied, North Kurdufan, Sudan, on April 30th.

The Soviet-era Antonov 26 plane went down when it was attempting to land at the El Obied airport.

There were five crew members aboard at the time; all of them were killed in the crash.

Army officials said the crash was caused by technical issues.

Military Helicopter Crashes in Indonesia; 12 Killed

A military helicopter crashed during an enemy chase mission in Poso District, Sulawesi, Indonesia, on March 20.

The Bell 412-EP was on its mission to capture Indonesia’s most wanted militant Abu Wardah Santoso when it went down and crashed.

At least 12 soldiers and officials aboard the helicopter lost their lives and one soldier went missing.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
