A Hurricane ultralight plane crashed during at attempt to land at the Monroe County Airport in Bloomington, Indiana, at about 12:45 p.m. on September 18.
There were 2 men aboard at the time of crash; both of them were killed. Their identities have not yet been disclosed.
According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts, one of the men reported a mechanical issue to the Monroe County Airport control tower shortly before 1 p.m. and sought permission for landing. “While approaching the airport from the north traveling south, the plane lost altitude and crashed into a small shed and wooded area behind a residence. The plane was immediately engulfed in flames and there were no survivors,” he said.
The police and the FAA are investigating.
