Float Plane Pilot Rescued after it Crashes in Alaska

A float plane crashed near Ketchikan on the shoreline of a lake in Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, on August 15th.

According to sources the plane wreckage was located on the Island, after which the pilot was rescued by the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter.

One person aboard was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

3 Killed, 7 Injured as Plane Crashes in Alaska

The DeHavilland DHC-3T Turbine Otter aircraft, carrying 10 people, went down while it was taking off from East Wind Lake.

Three people were killed in the accident. They were identified as 80-year-old Tony W. Degroot, of Hanford, California, 69-year-old James Specter, of Shavertown, Pennsylvania and 70-year-old James P. Fletcher, of Clovis, California.

Seven others were injured and were shifted to hospitals.

The plane belonged to Rainbow King Lodge.

The NTSB is investigating.

Michigan Float Plane Crash

At 5:10 pm Tuesday, Gerard Dale Pearson, 71, was piloting a float plane that crashed on Shoal Lake, in Michigan.

Emergency services, including Itasca County Search and Rescue, Cohasset Fire and Minnesota DNR and Itasca County Sheriff Department retrieved the pilot from the submerged plane.

Pearson was airlifted to Grand Itasca Hospital, then Miller Dwan in Duluth Michigan.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
