Where: Barcelona
Why: The airbus suffered wake turbulence causing the plane to roll to the right. The crew regained Santiagocontrol and continued to where they landed safely, although 4 passengers and 3 crew members were hurt.

The wake turbulence was caused by an A340 ten miles ahead.

Separation was met, and CIAIAC said weather was not a factor. The NTSB Report said probable case was due to In flight separation of the vertical stabilizer as a result of loads beyond system design caused by first officer’s excessive rudder input.

The post 2006 Wake Turbulence Event first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.

What: Vueling Airbus A320-200 en route from Seville to Barcelona
Where: Sevilla
When: Apr 26 2010
Why: After takeoff, the Vueling Airbus impacted a bird, which was ingested in the right engine. After the crew shut down the affected engine, they made a safe landing at Seville’s San Pablo Airport, where the Airbus was taken out of service for examination, maintenance and repairs. A replacement aircraft was flown in by Vueling for the passengers.

Although both jets involved were Vueling Airbus A320-200, they were different jets, and neither problem had anything to do with volcanic ash.

The post Vueling: Engine problems and Bird Strike first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.

Who: 169 passengers
Why: After boarding but prior to takeoff, the Airbus’s right engine caught on fire. The official statement said that “the fire began when the aircraft was in “pushback” phase, the taxi procedure for towing the aircraft from loading up by a bar connected to a tractor trailer.”

Passengers debarked via slides. There were eight injuries reported; it was not released if the injuries were caused by the fire emergency or the slides, nor if those injured were passengers or crew.

Four and a half hours later, passengers were provided an alternative Airbus to take them to their destination.

The post Paris: Airbus Catches Fire on Runway first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.
