According to the authorities, the reason of emergency landing was an oil leak in the aircraft.

The plane landed uneventfully and no one was hurt.

Director General of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, Leroy Lindsay said the aircraft will remain in Jamaica until the cause of the leak is determined. “They’ll be doing their investigations into what may have caused this oil leak and when they discover it, they will have to fix it and make sure it’s working before it is released. Our people from the flight safety division of the JCAA will have to be convinced that the aircraft is in air worthiness condition to depart,” he said.

On July 9, 2013 at 9 a.m., a Southwest Airlines flight en route from Baltimore’s BWI Marshall Airport to Las Vegas with 174 passengers, and 6 crew aboard developed engine trouble. The right engine developed a leak.

Pilots diverted to Kansas City International Airport where they made a safe landing.

Good job pilots. Safe landing. No injuries.

In George’s Point of View

I’ve said it before and likely will say it again. Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance.

Commercial planes are up and down all day long. It’s constant.

Problems with these planes are just a matter of time. There must be absolute iron-clad maintenance and inspection that is equally as aggressive as the operator that wants their entire fleet in the air all the time.

You know the old adage:
For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Think of how easily this applies to a plane.

For want of a maintenance check a washer was lost
For want of a washer the oil was lost.
For want of the oil, an engine was lost.
For want of an engine, the pilot was lost.
For want of the pilot, the plane was lost.
For want of the plane, the passengers were lost.
And all for want of a maintenance check.

So…I wasn’t really expecting to say it again so soon:

Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance.

The post Southwest Airlines Emergency landing at Kansas City International Airport first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.

Here’s a case that did not rush to court.

Six passengers of the October 2011 crash listed below have filed suit against Northern Thunderbird Air. The pilot and co-pilot, Luc Fortin and Matt Robic died shortly after the crash. Seven passengers were rescued six of whom are listed in the suit. Prior to takeoff, passengers informed the crew they saw oil under the wing. After takeoff, the pilot told the passengers he would be returning because oil was pouring from the wing.

The helicopter hit a lamp post, a car and smashed up on the road. An additional part of the suit is that the plane lacked an electrical cutoff switch to reduce fire threat.

NTSB Report:
On October 27, 2011, about 1600 pacific daylight time, a Beechcraft King Air 100, C-GXRX, operated by Northern Thunderbird Air, Inc. collided with terrain while attempting to land at the Vancouver International Airport, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and an instrument flight rules flight plan was in effect. The airplane sustained substantial damage, and a postcrash fire ensued. The pilot was killed. The copilot, seven passengers, and two people on the ground were seriously injured. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction and control of the Canadian government.

The post Northern Thunderbird Air Sued for 2011 Crash first appeared on George Hatcher's Air Flight Disaster.
