<p>The Sonex experimental plane was heading to Georgia when the pilot decided to return to Leesburg due to bad weather. However, as he was approaching the airport, the plane developed an engine issue, forcing him to crash-land in a field.</p>
<p>The pilot Joseph R. Bryant, 53, of Washington, remained unharmed.</p>

<p>The state police said in a statement, “A single-seat, experimental aircraft was conducting a high-speed taxi on the runway of the Stafford Regional Airport, when the aircraft unintentionally lifted off the runway…The aircraft cleared the Centreport Parkway before crash-landing into an embankment alongside the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 at the 137 mile marker.”</p>
<p>The pilot Roberta A. Boucher, 62, was seriously injured in the incident. She taken to Mary Washington Hospital.</p>

<p>Authorities said the single-engine experimental Kitfox plane had to perform an emergency landing due to gearbox failure that stopped propeller movement.</p>
<p>The plane landed on the north side of the ramp and ended up into a ditch between taxiway and runway.</p>
