Libyan Airlines Flight Diverts to Benghazi due to Cracked Windshield

Libyan Airlines flight UZ-90 diverted to Benghazi, Libya, on September 20th.

The plane heading from Tripoli to Tobruk, Libya, was diverted after a crack was noticed in the first officer’s windshield.

The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

Helicopter Crash in Libya Kills 3 French Soldiers

A helicopter went down and crashed in Libya on Wednesday, 20th July.

According to sources, it was a French military helicopter operating in Libya.

Three French soldiers were killed in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains unidentified.

Libyan Fighter Jet Crashed in Tobruk; 3 Killed, 9 Injured

A MiG-21 Fighter Jet belonging to Libya’s air force turned upside down and crashed in the Libyan city of Tobruk on September 2.

The plane went out of control and crashed, in a residential area, during a military event which was held to honour the pilot of another plane that crashed last week in Bayda city.

Three people, including the pilot, died in the crash while 9 others were injured.

According to security officials, the plane crashed due to hydraulic system failure.

Ghana VP in emergency landing

What: Ghana Air Force Falcon 900 EX presidential jet en route from Cairo to Burkina Faso Ghana
Where: Kufra Libya
When: Dec 10, 2010
Who: passengers included the vice President Mr. John Dramani Mahama, business man Alhaji Asumah Bandah, football icon Abedi Ayew Pele
Why: While en route, one of the Falcon’s engines failed. On losing the engine, the pilot descended to a lower altitude and continued flying, diverting to Kufra where he made a precautionary landing landing.

On landing, the baggage was quickly removed and passengers relocated.

What: Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A330-200 en route from Johannesburg South Africa to Tripoli, Libya
Where: Tripoli’s runway 09
When: May 12th 2010
Who: 93 passengers and 11 crew (105 reported fatalities: 94 passengers and 11 crew) A child may have survived.
Why: In good weather conditions with winds of three mph, the flight was on approach to Tripoli International Airport which has no instrument landing system and the runway itself is not in good condition. The accident happened one minute before sea level sunrise may have had to deal with visibility problems flying toward the rising sun, or possibly patchy fog.

The plane crashed on approach to the runway and is fragmented as if a high speed impact.

The wreckage area is described as a debris field. Rescue crew and volunteers are on the scene and all bodies are said to have been recovered, with one possible survivor.

Afriqiyah Airways is owned by the Libyan government.
