The Boeing 737-300 freighter en-route from Jayapura, Indonesia, touched down at the runway very hard in a nose high position.

The right main gear of the plane collapsed and it slid on its nose gear.

All 3 crew members and 15.3 tons of cargo remained safe.

The flight TGN267 crashed after it lost contact with the ATC during a flight from Sentani airport, Jayapura, to Oksibi, Papua. There were 54 people aboard at the time; all of them were killed.

The report released on October 7 said, “The downloading process to retrieve data from the FDR was unsuccessful. For further examination, the FDR data will be downloaded at BEA facility in Paris, France.”

The report further said that the cockpit voice recorder had a 2-hour recording but it did not give any clue as to what caused the crash.

Why: While en route, the plane suffered engine failure in one of its turboprops. The pilot had diverted to Balikpapan but could not reach the airport, and was forced to land in a rice field near Bone village. The plane was feared missing after losing contact with ATC. One individual had a broken leg but no other serious injuries were reported. No other details have been released regarding the retrieval of the passengers.
