The waste and blue cleaning fluid ends up in a storage tank under the floor, in the very back of the cargo hold of the aeroplane. With so many people on the plane using the toilets, you can imagine how big the storage tank is! The system is designed very much like the vacuum cleaners we use around the house to remove dirt and dust from our floors. This dirt and dust ends up in a container that we empty into a garbage bin.

India’s Dhruv chopper needs critical safety upgrade: Panel

India’s Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC) has ordered a design review of the “safety-critical system” of the Dhruv advanced light helicopter following a string of accidents, including one last week. An expert panel has been tasked with reviewing the system to improve the airworthiness of the India-made aircraft, which is operated by the army, air force, navy, and coast guard. The review follows the helicopter’s troubling safety record, with 12 accidents in the past five years.
