Four Killed as Small Plane Crashed in Slovenia

A small plane crashed near Ajdovscina in western Slovenia on July 14th.

The 6-seat Piper 32 plane was heading from Venice, Italy, to Leipzig, Germany, when it went down.

There were four people aboard at the time; all of them were killed in the crash. It is believed that the founder of German internet company ‘Unister’ Thomas Wagner, 38, was among those killed in the crash.

The plane was registered in the United States.

Authorities said the pilot reported problems with icing before the plane crashed.

British Airways Flight Diverts to Venice

British airwaysBritish Airways flight BA-2679 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Venice, Italy, on April 12th.

The Airbus A320-200 was heading from Dubrovnik, Croatia, to Gatwick Airport, England, when the crew requested an emergency landing due to a cabin fire indication.

The plane landed uneventfully. There were 140 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

Two Injured as Helicopter Crashes in Sarasota County

A helicopter crashed near Kenisco Road in South Venice, Sarasota County. Florida, on December 1.

Authorities said the helicopter, that took off from Venice Regional Airport with a female student pilot and a male teacher on-board, made a rough landing in a heavily wooded area of Lemon Bay Preserve.

The student sustained facial/head injuries and was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The teacher was taken to Venice Bayfront Health.

The FAA is investigating.

The plane was flying from Venice when a large seagull struck it, forcing the crew to declare emergency.

EasyJet Plane Diverts to Italy due to Medical Emergency

EasyjetEasyJet flight EZY5461 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Venice Marco Polo Airport, Italy, on October 10.

The plane, en-route to Heraklion, Greece, from Gatwick Airport, London, UK, had to be diverted after the pilot started feeling ill and lost consciousness mid-air.

Germanwings Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Venice

GermanwingsGermanwings flight 3882 made an emergency landing at Marco Polo Airport in Venice, Italy, on April 3.

According to the airline, the flight, en-route from Hanover, Germany, to Rome, was diverted because, “two people, a passenger and a member of the crew, were struck by strong nausea and needed medical treatment.”

The plane, carrying 149 people, landed uneventfully. Medical attention was provided to the sick passenger and crew member.

The flight resumed shortly afterwards.

5 Crew Members Fell Sick; US Airways Flight Made Emergency Landing in Ireland

US AirwaysUS Airways Flight 715 en route from Venice, Italy to Philadelphia had to be diverted to Dublin Airport, Ireland for making an emergency landing on May 19 because five of its crew members and one passenger fell sick midair.

The Airbus A330-200 had 238 passengers and 12 crew members on board at the time of the incident.

This was the second incident in two weeks when a US Airways flight has been forced to make an emergency landing after its crew members fell sick. Earlier, another US Airways flight on the same route had to be diverted to the same airport in Ireland nine days ago on May 10.

The causes of sickness is not yet known. The sickness symptoms included nausea, watery eyes and dizziness, as per health officials in Ireland.

First Officer Passes Out Midair; EL AL Flight 289 makes Emergency Landing in Croatia

EL ALEL AL flight 289, en route from Tel Aviv to Venice, had to make an emergency landing in Dubrovnik, Croatia, after its first officer fell ill mid air.

The plane departed from Tel Aviv at around 6 a.m. on May 15. After about 2 hours, the first officer went to use the bathroom and upon returning, told the captain that he was not feeling well. The captain informed the first flight attendant, and was searching for the nearby airports to make an emergency landing, when the first officer passed out. A doctor who was on board among the passengers gave him medical treatment during the flight.

The captain successfully made a safe emergency landing in Dubrovnik, where the first officer was taken to a hospital.

The airline later issued a statement confirming the incident.

“El Al flight 289 from Tel Aviv to Venice, with 98 passengers on board, landed in Dubrovnik after the first officer fell ill during the flight and was unable to fulfil his duties,” maintained the airline.

9 Crew Members Fell Ill; US Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Dublin Airport

US AirwaysThe US Airways flight US 715 from Venice to Philadelphia, had to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport after nine of its crew members fell sick due to a mystery bug.

The airbus A330, carrying 185 passengers, was flying over the Atlantic ocean when nine flight crew members reported watering eyes, nausea and dizziness. The pilot then diverted the plane to Dublin where it landed in emergency.

As per Dublin Airport sources, the flight landed at 3pm on May 10. The plane was parked in a remote area and ten ambulances were deployed to handle the patients.

The ill crew members were shifted to Beaumont Hospital where the doctors are evaluating their condition.

According to US airways spokesperson, none of the passengers reported illness. He also said that the airline is making arrangements to accommodate the passengers in other flights.
