Norwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-1990 made an emergency landing in Copenhagen, Denmark, on August 9th.

The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Oslo, Norway, to Split, Croatia, was diverted after the crew noticed a failed radio altimeter.

The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Air France Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lille, France

Air France flight AF-1727 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Lille, France, on June 30th.

The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Venice, Italy, to Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, was diverted due to radio problems.

The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

U.S. Coast Guard Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Gulfport–Biloxi International Airport

A U.S. Coast Guard C-130 plane made an emergency landing at Gulfport–Biloxi International Airport, Mississippi, on June 20th.

Airport authorities said the crew radioed in, saying that they needed to land at the airport due to smoke in the cockpit.

The plane landed safely. There were six people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

American Airlines Plane Returns to Chicago due to Communication Radio Problem

American Airlines flight AA-150 had to return and make an emergency landing at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, on May 18th.

The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, but had to turn back after the crew reported an issue with the primary communication radio.

The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

Austrian Airlines Plane Returns to Vienna due to Radio System Malfunction

Austrian AirlinesAustrian Airlines flight OS-597 had to return for an emergency landing in Vienna, Austria, on September 7th.

The plane took off for Krakow, Poland, but had to turn back due to a fault in the radio system.

The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

Delta Airlines Flight Intercepted by Greek F-16 Fighter Jets

250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-8957 was intercepted by two Greek F-16 fighter aircrafts on May 19th.

According to the airline, the radio contact with Greek ATC was lost for a brief period of time when the Boeing 767-400, en-route from Frankfurt, Germany, to Kuwait, was transiting through Greek Airspace.

The fighter jets returned to the airbase as the communication was restored.

The flight continued to Kuwait.

CityJet Plane Intercepted by Typhoon Fighters in England due to Communication Loss

CityJetCityJet flight AF-1558 was intercepted by two British Typhoon fighter planes upon entering in British Airspace in Yorkshire, England, on May 2nd.

The Avro RJ-85 was flying from Paris, France, when it lost radio communication with the ATC right after entering the British Airspace.

The plane accompanied by Typhoons landed safely Newcastle Airport, UK.

No one was injured.

Egypt Air Plane Makes Safe Landing in Israel after Communication Loss

EgyptAirEgypt Air flight 4D-54 had to be intercepted before it made a safe landing at Ben Gurion Airport, Tel Aviv, Israel, on April 23rd.

The Embraer ERJ-170 was en-route from Cairo, Egypt, when upon entering Israeli Airspace, it lost communication due to a radio failure, prompting Israeli Authorities to intercept the plane.

The plane landed safely after gaining its frequency back.

All passengers onboard remained unharmed.

Pilot Killed as Small Plane Crashes in Iowa

A small plane crashed in the median of Interstate 29, north of downtown Council Bluffs, Iowa, on December 10.

The Piper Malibu Meridian single-engine plane had just taken off from Eppley Airfield when it started experiencing some issues. Authorities said the pilot radioed to the airport and sought permission to return for an emergency landing, however, the plane clipped a power line and went down.

The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash. He was identified as John Rogers, 65, of Omaha.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.
