A small plane made an emergency landing in a field in Macedon, Wayne County, New York, on January 21.

Authorities said the pilot was forced to land the single-engine plane in the field behind a home after the ice clogged its carburetor and the engine began seizing up. The plane was heading from New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Rochester, New York, at the time.

The plane landed safely. Both people aboard, including the pilot Jeremiah Coholan and his passenger, Richard Medeiros, remained unhurt.

Two Killed as Small Plane Crashes in Santa Rosa

A small plane crashed into a soggy field near Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, California, on January 28.

Authorities said the plane, flying from Palm Springs to Santa Rosa, went down near the end of Wood Ranch Road.

Both occupants of the plane, including the pilot, Donald MacKenzie, 69, and his passenger, Marsha Gastwirth, 68, were killed in the crash.

Helicopter Crash-Lands on Long Island; No Injuries Reported

A 2006 Robinson R22 Beta helicopter made a crash-landing near West Riviera Drive and West Alhambra Avenue in Lindenhurst, Long Island, New York, on January 27.

The incident happened after the helicopter, carrying two people, lost power while returning to the Republic Airport. According to Frank Delia, of the Academy of Aviation, “It was a standard training flight…They were coming from the south practice area, which is off the south shore of Long Island, on their way back to Republic Airport after a successful training flight.”

Both people aboard the aircraft, including the pilot Joseph Lombardo, 26, and his student Ming Chen, 26, remained uninjured.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Denton, TX

A small plane made an emergency landing in a grassy area near U.S. 380 in Denton, Texas, on January 22.

The Piper Navajo plane took off from Denton Enterprise Airport for a routine maintenance flight but was forced to land in emergency due to engine issues.

The aircraft came to rest on its belly near some electrical transmission towers.

The pilot, identified as David Kinney of Aubrey, suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Pilot Feared Dead after F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes in Arizona

An F-16 fighter jet crashed in a remote area near Bagdad, Yavapai County, Arizona, on January 21.

The jet that took off from Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix, was carrying a student pilot from Taiwan when it went down. Authorities said the pilot was practicing air-to-air combat with an instructor as part of training.

According to Brig. Gen. Scott Pleus, commander of the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke, “All indications lead me to believe that the pilot did not survive the accident…But until we have 100 percent confirmation, we will continue search efforts.”

The cause of crash is not clear at the moment.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Washington County Pasture

Authorities said the land-owner found the aircraft when he went to feed his cattle in the pasture.

The troopers contacted the pilot who told them he had to make an emergency landing due to mechanical issues and that he was not injured. He said he was making arrangements to bring a mechanic to the plane.

Venezuela National Guard Helicopter Crashes in Colombia

plane crashA Venezuela National Guard helicopter crashed onto a parking lot in Paraguachon, La Guajira, Colombia, on December 28.

Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuela’s top diplomat, said, “Adverse weather conditions led to this unfortunate accident. We thank Colombian authorities who provided support to the officers.”

There were two people aboard the Bell helicopter at the time; including the pilot and the co-pilot. Both of them were injured in the crash. They were taken to hospitals in Venezuela.

Colombia’s Defense Minister Luis Carlos Villegas said, “”We will proceed through diplomatic channels with the government of Venezuela to establish where the wreckage will be sent.”

1 Killed, 1 Injured as Tiger Moth Plane Crashes in Australia

A vintage Tiger Moth plane crashed on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, on December 28.

The biplane, operated by Gold Coast-based Tiger Moth Joy Rides, went down shortly after taking off from an airstrip in Norwell.

A 58-year-old sightseer from New South Wales was killed in the crash. The 21-year-old pilot, who was the only one aboard sustained injuries and was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

The accident is under investigation.

Medical Helicopter Crashes in Arizona; 2 Killed, 1 Injured

A medical helicopter crashed near Apache Junction, Arizona, on December 15.

The helicopter, operated by Air Methods, was flying from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to Globe when it went down.

There were three crew members aboard at the time; two of them were killed. The deceased were identified as the pilot David Schneider, 51, of Gilbert, and flight nurse Chad Frary, 38, of Mesa.

The third crew member, identified as the paramedic Derek Boehm, 38, of Gilbert, was critically injured.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

Pilot Killed as Small Plane Crashes in Iowa

A small plane crashed in the median of Interstate 29, north of downtown Council Bluffs, Iowa, on December 10.

The Piper Malibu Meridian single-engine plane had just taken off from Eppley Airfield when it started experiencing some issues. Authorities said the pilot radioed to the airport and sought permission to return for an emergency landing, however, the plane clipped a power line and went down.

The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash. He was identified as John Rogers, 65, of Omaha.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

Morgan Freeman’s private jet crash-landed at Tunica Airport in Mississippi, on December 5.

Authorities said the plane, carrying the 78-year-old actor, ended up in a dirt field after landing.

According to Morgan, “I was on my plane on the way to Texas to shoot a segment for The Story of God. Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on take-off which caused other problems. But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson, we landed safely without a scratch. I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety.”

The plane was flying from Clarksdale, Mississippi.

A 1960 Piper Comanche single-engine plane made an emergency landing at Millville Municipal Airport, Cumberland County, New Jersey, on December 4.

Authorities said the plane was taking off when it lost power and landed on its belly on the grass near a taxiway.

There were two people aboard at the time, including the pilot Roger Buck of Berlin and his passenger Roland Arthur of Lumberton. Buck sustained minor injuries in the incident while Arthur remained unhurt.

The plane, registered to Buck, was significantly damaged.

A helicopter crashed near Kenisco Road in South Venice, Sarasota County. Florida, on December 1.

Authorities said the helicopter, that took off from Venice Regional Airport with a female student pilot and a male teacher on-board, made a rough landing in a heavily wooded area of Lemon Bay Preserve.

The student sustained facial/head injuries and was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The teacher was taken to Venice Bayfront Health.

The FAA is investigating.

A helicopter crashed into the Fox Glacier in New Zealand on November 21.

The authorities said the Eurocopter “Squirrel” helicopter, operated by Alpine Adventures, was carrying six passengers and a pilot when it went down.
