Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Chicago Parking Lot

A helicopter made an emergency landing in a parking lot in Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, on October 14.

The aircraft was heading from O’Hare International Airport to Peoria, Illinois, when the pilot noticed oil leak and decided to land in parking lot of a Menard’s.

The helicopter landed safely. The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained unhurt.

The aircraft is registered to Rotor Holdings LLC, of Hampton, New Hampshire.

Government Helicopter Crashes in Mexico; 2 Dead

Helicopter crashA state helicopter crashed in a rural area of Veracruz, Mexico, on October 6.

Authorities said the Bell 430 went down near El Lencero airport, Xalapa.

There were 2 people aboard the aircraft at the time; both of them were killed. They were identified as Capt. David Barrera and Capt. Fausto Calderon.

The cause of crash is being investigated.

Miami-Dade Police Department Chopper Makes Emergency Landing

chopperA Police helicopter made an emergency landing near Miami Seaquarium in Key Biscayne, Florida, on September 15.

According to Miami-Dade Police Department, the pilot requested an emergency landing after he noticed some mechanical issues in the aircraft.

The helicopter landed safely.

The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained unhurt.

Helicopter Carrying Uttarakhand Minister Makes Emergency Landing

chopperA helicopter carrying Uttarakhand Forest Minister Dinesh Agarwal had to make an emergency landing in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, on September 13.

Authorities said the chopper was forced to land in the Glocal University campus due to bad weather. Mr. Agarwal was en-route to Dehradun at the time.

The aircraft landed uneventfully

Mr. Agarwal continued his journey in a car.

Fort Carson Black Hawk Crashes in Douglas County

helicoptersaop1A military chopper made a hard landing in U.S. Forest Service land, south of Rampart Range Road and Colorado 67, in Douglas County, Colorado, on September 2.

The 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter took off from Fort Carson and was on a routine training flight when it went down.

There were 4 soldiers on-board at the time; all of them were injured. They were taken to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

The incident is being investigated.

2nd Combat Aviation Brigade’s Chopper Makes Emergency Landing in South Korea

chopperA chopper, belonging to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, made an emergency landing near Camp Humphreys, located close to South Korea’s Anjeong-ri and Pyeongtaek metropolitan areas, on August 24.

The OH –58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter was on a routine maintenance flight around the camp when it had to land in emergency.

Both pilots sustained minor injuries.

The cause of emergency landing is not clear at the moment.

Kruger National Park Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing

helicoptersaop1A helicopter had to make an emergency landing in Kruger National Park (KNP), South Africa, on August 18.

Three KNP officials were aboard the helicopter when it experienced engine failure and power loss, forcing the pilot to land in emergency. It is believed that they were helping an on-ground game capture team in search of 2 missing rhinos.

The helicopter landed uneventfully and everyone aboard remained safe.

Managing executive of KNP Glenn Phillips, “We are grateful that our employees are all safe and no one was hurt; even grateful that the game capture team managed to recover the animals and ensure their safe return to the park.”

8 Seriously Injured as UN Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Sudan

HelicopterA helicopter, working for the UN-AN peacekeeping mission in Darfur, made an emergency landing in Saraf Omra, North Darfur, Sudan, on August 16.

The incident happened when the helicopter was flying from El Fasher, North Darfur. According to a spokesperson “A UNAMID helicopter, an Mi-8, carrying 18 passengers and three crew on board made an emergency landing approximately 100 metres” (yards) from the helipad at a base belonging to the mission at Saraf Omra in North Darfur.”

Eight people sustained serious injuries in the incident while others sustained minor injuries. They were shifted to Saraf Omra base for medical aid.

The cause of emergency landing is not clear at the moment.

7 Injured as U.S. Military Helicopter Crash-Lands in Japan

helicopterA U.S. military chopper crash-landed around 20 miles east of Okinawa Island in Japan at around 1:46 p.m. on August 12th.

The incident happened when the UH-60 Black Hawk, carrying 17 people, was on a training mission. According to the U.S. Pacific Command, it crash-landed on the USNS Red Cloud cargo vessel.

Seven people were injured and were taken to a U.S. naval hospital on the Island.

The cause of incident is being investigated.

Coast Guard Chopper Makes Emergency Landing in New York

A Coast Guard Helicopter made an emergency landing in golf course of Richmond County Country Club, Staten Island, New York, on August 2.

The chopper, heading from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Bayonne, New Jersey, had to land in emergency due to fumes and smoke in cockpit.

The helicopter landed uneventfully and all 4 people aboard remained safe.

The cause of smoke is being investigated.

Canadian Air Force Helicopter Makes Precautionary Landing in Mineville

A Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter made a precautionary landing on a cul-de-sac in Mineville, Nova Scotia, Canada, at 10:40 A.M. on July 7.

The Sea King helicopter was on a routine training flight when it had to land as a precaution after the crew observed a drop in its hydraulic pressure.

None of the 4 crew members aboard reported any injuries.

Pilot Killed as Crop-Dusting Helicopter Crashed in California

A crop dusting helicopter, owned by Gomes Farm Air Service, crashed in a field near Salinas in California, at around 9 a.m. on June 20.

FAA spokesperson Allen Kenitzer confirmed that the pilot of Bell 47-G5 helicopter was killed in the crash. He was identified as the co- owner of Gomes Farm Air Service, Frank Gomes Jr.

The cause of incident is being investigated by the FAA.

Border Protection Chopper Fired-on Near Texas-Mexico Border

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter had to make an emergency landing in La Bota Ranch, Laredo, Texas, on June 5.

According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson, “The helicopter was impacted by gunfire, hitting the side of the aircraft and the rotor blade… The pilot was able to make a safe landing, there were no injuries.”

The FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, USCBP, Laredo Police Department and Texas Rangers responded to the area.

The incident is being investigated.

Doctors Without Borders-Chartered Helicopter Crashed in Nepal; 4 Killed

A helicopter crashed on Yamuna Danda hill, near Balefi village, in Nepal, on June 2.

Authorities said the helicopter, chartered by Doctors Without Borders, was involved in post-earthquake relief activities. It crashed when it was returning to Kathmandu with 4 people aboard.

All four people, including 3 men and a woman, were killed in the crash. The deceased have not yet been identified.

The cause of crash is being investigated.

Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing at Aberdeen International Airport

helicopterA Super Puma EC 225 helicopter had to make an emergency landing at Aberdeen International Airport, United Kingdom, on May 28.

The helicopter, operated by CHC Helicopter, was carrying 19 people when an alarm went off, forcing the pilot to declare an emergency.

The aircraft landed safely and everyone aboard remained unhurt.

According to CHC, the alarm went off due to a baggage item that had been restricting the air flow around a smoke detector.

Marine Helicopter Lands in Emergency on Los Angeles River Bed

A Marine Apache helicopter had to make an emergency landing on the east side of Los Angeles River bed in South Gate, California, on May 11.

Two pilots aboard the Camp Pendleton-based aircraft decided to make an emergency landing after they discovered some electrical issues.

Columbus Police Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Parking Lot

A Columbus police helicopter had to make an emergency landing in a parking lot in Columbus, Ohio, around midnight on April 30.

Authorities said the helicopter’s pilot decided to land in emergency after a warning light went on.

The plane safely landed near a shopping plaza in west Columbus. No one was injured.

The helicopter was able to return to the police heliport early morning.

U.S. Air Force Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Alexandria

HelicopterA U.S. Air Force chopper made an emergency landing at a school in Alexandria, Virginia, on April 30.

Local officials said the helicopter experienced mechanical issues and landed just next to William Ramsay Elementary School at around 10:30 a.m.

Super Stallion Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing on Solana Beach

A Marine Corps helicopter made an emergency landing on Solana Beach, California, on April 15.

According to a statement released by Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the 100-foot CH-53E Super Stallion was forced to land in emergency after a low oil-pressure indicator light flashed. “The aircraft was conducting routine training, and the pilots landed the aircraft safely,” it said.

The aircraft remained undamaged.

The Super Stallion has three engines and is the heaviest and largest helicopter the U.S. military has.

Helicopter Crash in Malaysia Kills 6

HelicopterA helicopter crashed near Kampung Pasir Baru, Semenyih, Malaysia, on April 4.

The commercially-chartered twin-engine Daughin helicopter crashed while it was transporting guests from the wedding reception of Malaysian prime minister’s daughter in Pekan, Pahang state.

Six people, including the country’s special envoy and former ambassador to the United States, Jamaluddin Jarjis, and the chief of staff to prime minister, Azlin Alias, were killed in the crash.

Among other victims was the pilot Clifford William Fournier, operations assistant Aidana Baizieva, Kedah businessman Huat Seang and Mr Jamaluddin’s bodyguard Razakan Seran.

Prime Minister Najib Razak has ordered a probe to determine the cause of crash.

Private Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing Off Coast of Taylors Island

SeaA private helicopter made an emergency landing into the water off of Taylor’s Island, Maryland, on March 25.

Authorities said the helicopter apparently experienced a mechanical issue, after which, the pilot radioed a distress call and made a hard landing in around 4 feet of water.

There were 2 people aboard at the time, including the pilot Vincent T. Giglio, 45, of New Jersey, and his passenger, Ronald F. Lopes, 61, of New York; both of them remained unharmed.

Helicopter Crashes into Residential Building in Orlando; 3 Killed

FireA helicopter crashed into a building at 722 Alameda Drive, near Orlando Executive Airport in Orlando, Florida, at around 2:15 p.m. on March 22.

Authorities said the Robinson R44 helicopter took off from Orlando Executive Airport but crashed shortly afterwards into a two-story garage apartment, sparking fire.

According to Orlando police Sgt. Wanda Ford, “We don’t know what caused the accident… We just know the helicopter did go inside the guest house and thankfully there were no residents inside.”

All 3 occupants of the aircraft were killed in the crash. They were identified as the pilot Bruce Teitelbaum, his wife Marsha Khan and a friend Harry Anderson.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Ewa Beach Construction Site

A Robinson R22 helicopter made an emergency landing at a construction site in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, at around 12:45 p.m. on March 17.

According to helicopter’s owner George Hanzawa of George’s Aviation Services Inc., the aircraft was heading from Honolulu to Kalaeloa when the pilot heard a strange sound. He then decided to make an emergency landing as a precaution.

The helicopter was carrying 2 people at the time, including the pilot; both of them remained unharmed.

The aircraft was not damaged.

Pilot Killed after Medical Helicopter Crashed in Oklahoma

Eagle MedAn EagleMed medical helicopter crashed in woods, west of Eufaula, Oklahoma, on March 12.

The accident happened when the helicopter was carrying 3 EagleMed employees, including the pilot Matt Mathews, nurse Kim Ramsey and paramedic Ryan Setzkorn.

According to McIntosh County Emergency Management Director Wesley Dawson, the crash was reported at around 11:40 p.m. while search and rescue teams located the wreckage at around 4 a.m. on March 13.

The pilot was killed in the crash while the nurse and paramedic sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

2 Dead in Central Japan Helicopter Crash

fireA helicopter crashed into a mountain forest in Kihoku, Mie Prefecture, Japan, at around 10:50 a.m. on March 6.

Authorities believe the 22-seater helicopter touched a power cable, sparking fire in around 200 to 300 square meters forest area.

Both occupants of the aircraft were killed in the accident. They were identified as 53-year-old Captain Yoshifumi and 41-year-old Yuki Fujimoto.

The incident is under investigation.
