Caribbean Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Hewanorra International Airport

Caribbean Airlines flight BW-434 had to make an emergency landing at Hewanorra International Airport, Saint Lucia, on July 9th.

The plane heading from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, to George F. L. Charles Airport, Saint Lucia, was diverted after the crew received an engine fire indication.

The plane landed safely. There were sixty-eight people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

WestJet Encore Flight Makes Emergency Landing in British Columbia

WestJetWestJet Encore flight 3105 made an emergency landing in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, on November 22nd.

The plane heading from Vancouver to Terrace, Canada, was diverted after the crew reported an issue with the front landing gear.

The plane landed uneventfully. All 40 passengers and 4 crew members remained safe.

Small Plane Crashed at Eureka Municipal Airport

A small plane crashed at the Eureka Municipal Airport in Greenwood County, Kansas, on November 4th.

The plane was attempting to the land at the airport when it crash-landed and came to stop on its top.

There were two people aboard at the time, including the pilot George Douglas, 69, and his passenger Lawrence Stapleton, 55. Authorities said Douglas remained uninjured, however, Stapleton sustained minor injuries.

United Express Flight Returns to George Bush Intercontinental Airport

United ExpressUnited Express Flight 3888 had to return and make an emergency landing at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, on October 23rd.

The plane took off for Birmingham, Alabama, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported fumes in the cockpit.

The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in South Africa

A small plane made an emergency landing on the Lookout Beach in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, on March 24th.

According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon, “On arrival on the scene a Cessna light aircraft was found to have made an emergency landing on the beach and it is believed that the light aircraft may have suffered engine failure while flying over Keurbooms Lagoon while on a pilot training flight from George Airport forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing on the beach.”

There were two people aboard, including the instructor pilot and trainee pilot; both of them remained unharmed.

The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating.

Safair Boeing Diverts to Cape Town due to Flaps Problem

SafairSafair flight FA-244 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Cape Town International Airport, Cape Town, South Africa, on November 14.

The Boeing 737-400, heading to George, South Africa, to Johannesburg, had to divert due to an issue with its flaps.

The plane landed safely.

No injuries were reported.

Near Total loss of Tajikistan Airlines Flight 3183


Tajikistan Airlines (Tajik Air) Flight 3183 crashed on 15 December 1997 on approach to Sharjah Airport in the United Arab Emirates. Only the navigator, Sergei Petrov, survived of a crew of seven and seventy-nine passengers. The Tupelov crashed into the desert eight miles east of the airport. The controlled flight into terrain originated from Dushanbe Airport Tajikistan. Situational awareness may have been a factor.
