Norwegian Air International flight D8-2905 made an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport, England, on October 5th.

The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Copenhagen, Denmark, was on approach to Gatwick Airport when the captain reported that the first officer had become ill and declared an emergency.

The plane continued for a safe landing.

Ryanair flight FR-3918 made an emergency landing in Trapani, Italy, on August 23rd.

The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from London Stansted Airport, England, to Palermo, Italy, was diverted after the first officer became incapacitated.

Finnair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Helsinki

Finnair flight AY-617 had to return and make an emergency landing in Helsinki, Finland, on January 23rd.

The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Ivalo, Finland, but had to turn back after the first officer fell ill.

Brussels Airlines Flight Returns to Brussels After First Officer Falls Ill

Brussels Airlines flight SN-3233 had to return and make an emergency landing in Brussels, Belgium, on September 9th.

The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Rhodes, Greece, but had to return shortly afterwards after the first officer fell ill.

The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

American Airlines First Officer Dies During Landing in Albuquerque

American Airlines flight AA-1353 made an emergency landing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 29th.

The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, was on final approach when the captain declared a medical emergency saying, “We’ve got an issue with one of the pilots.”

The plane continued for a safe landing. Emergency services performed CPR on the first officer, however, could not save his life.

The deceased first officer was identified as William “Mike” Grubbs, 58.

The incident is being investigated.

Loganair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Scotland

Loganair flight BE-6939 made an emergency landing at Sumburgh Airport in Shetland, Scotland, on March 9th.

The plane was flying from Kirkwall, Scotland, when the first officer became unwell, prompting the crew to declare an emergency.

Gulf Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bahrain

Gulf Air flight GF-506 had to return for an emergency landing in Bahrain, on March 9th.

The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but had to return shortly afterwards after the first officer reported feeling unwell.

The plane landed back safely. The first officer was shifted to hospital.

2 Feared Dead as Norwegian Postal Plane Crashes in Sweden

A Norwegian postal plane crashed in a remote mountainous area near the Akkajaure reservoir in Lapland region of northern Sweden, on January 8.

The Canadair CRJ 200 aircraft was carrying mail from Oslo to Tromso, Norway, when it went down. According to Daniel Lindblad, spokesman for the Swedish Maritime Administration, “They sent a very brief ‘mayday’ and then the plane disappeared from our radar. The weather conditions weren’t harsh.”

There were two people aboard the plane, including the 42-year-old captain and a 34-year-old first officer; both of them are feared dead.

The plane was being operated by West Atlantic.
