Swift Air flight WQ-933 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Miami International Airport, Florida, on July 7th.

The Boeing 737-300 flying from Montego Bay, Jamaica, to Cleveland, Ohio, had to divert due to smoke indication in its cargo hold.

The plane landed safely.

All 155 people aboard remained safe.

Scandinavian Airlines Flight Diverts to Canada After Loss of Cabin Pressure

Scandinavian Airlines flight SK-944 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, on April 16th.

The Airbus A340-300 plane heading from Chicago, Illinois, to Copenhagen, Denmark, was diverted due to loss of cabin pressure.

The plane landed uneventfully. There were 196 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

Delta Airlines Flight Diverts to Cold Bay due to Engine Issue

Delta Airlines flight DL-68 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Cold Bay, Alaska, on January 14th.

The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Narita International Airport, Japan, to Portland, Oregon, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

The plane landed uneventfully. There were 210 passengers and 11 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

A small plane crashed into a home near Half Moon Bay Airport in Moss Beach, California, on November 18th.

The single engine Cessna 172 plane, carrying two people, took off from Sacramento and was heading to the Bay Area when it went down.

The passenger was killed in the crash while the pilot sustained serious injuries.

The accident is being investigated.

American EagleAmerican Airlines flight AA-288 made an emergency landing in Cold Bay, Alaska, on October 12th.

The Boeing 787-800 plane heading from Shanghai, China, to Chicago, Illinois, was diverted after the crew received indication of a possible mechanical issue.

The Cessna 182 was carrying a pilot and a teenage flying student when it went down.

Several Injured after Malaysia Airlines Flight Runs into Severe Turbulence

Malaysia AirlinesMalaysia Airlines flight MH-1 experienced severe turbulence over the Bay of Bengal, on June 5th.

The Airbus A380-800 plane was flying from Heathrow Airport, London, United Kingdom, when it ran into severe turbulence that injured around 34 people.

The plane landed uneventfully. The airline said that a small number of passengers and crew members required medical assistance.

The plane was carrying 378 people at the time.

Delta Airlines Flight Diverts to Austin Straubel International Airport

The plane took off from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was en-route to Minneapolis, Minnesota, when the crew reported a smoky odor and requested an emergency landing.

The plane landed safely. All 131 passengers remained unharmed.

WestJet Encore Plane Makes Safe Landing in Canada after Flaps Problem

WestJetWestJet Encore flight WS-3415 continued for a safe landing at Thunder Bay International Airport, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, on April 4th.

The De Havilland Dash 8-400, en-route from Toronto to Thunder Bay, was on approach to the runway when the crew reported some problem with the flaps and resolved to make flaps up landing.

The plane landed successfully.

All 56 people onboard remained unharmed.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in South Africa

A small plane made an emergency landing on the Lookout Beach in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, on March 24th.

According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon, “On arrival on the scene a Cessna light aircraft was found to have made an emergency landing on the beach and it is believed that the light aircraft may have suffered engine failure while flying over Keurbooms Lagoon while on a pilot training flight from George Airport forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing on the beach.”

There were two people aboard, including the instructor pilot and trainee pilot; both of them remained unharmed.

The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating.

Cargo Plane Crashes into Bay of Bengal; 3 Dead, 1 Injured

A Russian cargo plane crashed into the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh, on March 9th.

The Antonov An-26 plane, belonging to True Aviation cargo service, was transporting shrimp from Cox’s Bazar airport to Jessore district, Bangladesh, when it went down. According to airport manager Sadhan Kumar, “Before the crash the pilot sent us a message saying one of the two engines of the plane went out of order… We prepared the airport for its emergency landing but the aircraft could not make its way back here.”

There were four Ukrainian crew members aboard at the time; three of them were killed in the crash while fourth one was injured.

The crash is under investigation.

Jet Airways Passenger Opens Emergency Exit Door ‘Just For Fun’

Jet AirwaysA passenger aboard Jet Airways flight 9W 585 opened the plane’s emergency exit just after landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, India, on January 24.

According to a Jet Airways spokesperson, “A guest, who travelled from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai by Jet Airways flight 9W 585, opened the emergency exit after the aircraft had parked at the bay at the Mumbai airport. The matter was reported to the security agencies.”

The passenger, who apparently told the crew members that he opened the emergency exit door “just for fun”, was escorted to a local police station by security forces.

Local media identified him as Steve Titschler, of Germany.

Two Injured as Helicopter Crashes in Sarasota County

A helicopter crashed near Kenisco Road in South Venice, Sarasota County. Florida, on December 1.

Authorities said the helicopter, that took off from Venice Regional Airport with a female student pilot and a male teacher on-board, made a rough landing in a heavily wooded area of Lemon Bay Preserve.

The student sustained facial/head injuries and was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The teacher was taken to Venice Bayfront Health.

The FAA is investigating.

Singapore Airlines Plane Diverts to Indonesia due to Smoke Indication

Singapore airlinesSingapore Airlines flight SQ-7108 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Denpasar International Airport in Bali, Indonesia, on October 26.

The Boeing 747-400 freighter aircraft was transporting 2,186 sheep from Sydney, Australia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when the crew received smoke indication in a cargo bay and declared emergency.

The plane landed safely. All four crew members aboard remained unhurt.

It is believed that the exhaust gasses and sheep manure was the cause of smoke indication.

The plane resumed its journey after 2.5 hours.

2 Injured after Small Plane Crashed near Port Townsend

Authorities said the plane, carrying 2 people, went down just a mile west of Jefferson County International Airport.

Both occupants of the plane were injured. Emergency responders had to extricate them from the wreckage before shifting them to Harborview Medical Center, Seattle.

The cause of crash is not clear at the moment.

Air Canada Plane Diverts to Frankfurt to Save Dog

Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC-85 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Frankfurt, Germany, on September 13.

The Boeing 787-800 was heading from Tel Aviv, Israel to Toronto, Canada, when heating system of a cargo bay malfunctioned. The captain decided to divert the plane as there was a French bulldog named Simba travelling in the bay. According to airline spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick, “As soon as the crew became aware of the temperature issue, the captain grew rightfully concerned for the dog’s comfort and well-being… With the altitude it can become very uncomfortable, and possibly the situation could have been life-threatening if the flight had continued.”

The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

The plane was able to continue its journey with a 90-minute delay.
