Sun expressSun Express flight XQ-366 fell on its nose at Antalya Airport, Antalya, Turkey, on May 1st.

The Boeing 737-800 was preparing to depart from Antalya to Paderborn, Germany, when its nose gear retracted during replacement.

The plane collapsed on its nose.

Two crew members received minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

Emirates Flight Diverts to Turkey due to Smoke in Cockpit

EmiratesEmirates flight EK-35 made an emergency landing in Trabzon, Turkey, on February 4th.

The Boeing 777-300, heading from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to Newcastle, United Kingdom, was diverted after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

Mahan Air Plane Skids Off Runway, Crashes into Concrete Barrier at Istanbul Airport

mahanA Mahan Air plane crashed into a concrete barrier at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, Turkey, on December 24.

The Airbus A310 plane, performing flight W5-112 from Tehran, Iran, skidded off the runway and crashed into a concrete barrier.

There were 150 passengers aboard at the time; all of them were evacuated safely.

The cause of crash is under investigation.

Turkish Airlines Plane Hits Dog whilst Landing in Istanbul

The Boeing 737-800 was en-route from Porto, Portugal, to Istanbul, Turkey, when it ran into a dog while landing at the airport.

Turkish Airlines Plane Makes Priority Landing in Istanbul

Turkish airlinesTurkish Airlines flight TK2659 made a priority landing at Istanbul Atatürk Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 14.

The Boeing 737-800 was flying from Sivas, Turkey, when an asthma patient passenger fell ill mid-air. The pilot then contacted the air traffic control, saying “Our asthma patient passenger has low blood pressure. We have doctor in the cabin. Doctor is frequently checking the blood pressure. If it possible we would like to land on as soon as possible sir.”

The plane landed uneventfully. It is believed that the patient’s condition had become better during landing.

Air Berlin Jet Diverts to Turkey to Kick Out Elderly Woman for Using Wrong Toilet

air berlinAn Air Berlin flight made an emergency landing at Erzurum Airport in Turkey, on October 21.

The pilot requested an emergency landing after an elderly Slovakian woman used the toilet reserved for business class travelers. The plane was en-route from Vienna, Austria to Abu Dhabi, UAE at the time. According to Edita Kmetova, 60, she got sick mid-flight and had to use business class toilet because economy class toilet was already in use. When she came out, the pilot, business class passengers, and stewardesses confronted her and handcuffed her for the rest of the flight.

The plane landed safely in Erzurum. According to the airport manager Abubekir Özcan, he asked the crew to un-cuff her and took her for questioning. However, since she had no criminal record, she was released.

Özcan also said he had requested the pilot to allow Kmetova to continue her journey as she had no money and looked devastated. But the pilot took off without her.

Turkish Airlines Flight Returns to Istanbul after Bomb Threat

The flight took off for Tokyo, Japan, at around 1:30 a.m, however, just minutes into the flight, the crew received a message indicating possible C-4 explosive on-board. The pilot immediately reported the situation and requested an emergency return.

Police teams thoroughly searched the aircraft but no explosive material was found.

Turkish Military Helicopter Crashed in Kocaeli; 4 Killed

helicopterA Turkish military helicopter crashed in a mountainous area of Kartepe district, Kocaeli province, Turkey, on October 12.

The Konya-bound S-70B Sikorsky aircraft took off from the Cengiz Topel Military Airport, Izmir at 12:18 p.m. and lost connection with the air traffic control at 12:25 p.m.

Search and rescue teams were then sent in the area, which spotted the wreckage in a forested region.

There were 4 people aboard the helicopter at the time of crash; all of them were killed. Their bodies were shifted to Gölcük Military Hospital.

Turkish Airlines Plane Made Emergency Landing at Istanbul

Turkish airlinesA Turkish Airlines chartered plane, which took off from Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side of Istanbul for Milan in Italy, made an emergency landing at the Ataturk Airport, Istanbul at noon on August 5.

According to the airport officials, the aircraft with 96 passengers aboard developed some technical fault immediately after taking off.

The officials further added that the passengers will be provided with another THY flight to resume their journey to Milan.

Pegasus “Sochi Olympics” Hijack Attempt


On Feb 7 2014, on a Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737-86J en route from Kharkov to Istanbul, the 45-year-old passenger seated in “2F” hollered “BOMB!” threatened there was a bomb in the baggage compartment and wanted to hijack the plane to go to the Sochi Olympics. His attempt to enter the cockpit was foiled. When pilots entered Turkish airspace, they informed authorities.

An F-16 Turkish military fighter jet was called to provide an escort.

The flight landed in Istanbul (on the Asian side of the airport where Pegasus has its hub) where the Ukrainian man was taken into custody.

There was no bomb. None of the 110 passengers were hurt.

The passenger was just intoxicated.

Turkish Airlines Bird Strike

A Turkish Airlines Istanbul-Athens Boeing 737-800 made an emergency landing on July 5 after a bid strike.

After takeoff from Ataturk International Airport at 7:40, the plane hit a flock of birds.

The pilot returned to the airport and made a safe landing with damaged engine baffles.

Passengers disembarked and were provided an alternative flight.

Turkish Balloon Fairy chimneys crash


A Lindstrand LBL 425A balloon with twenty-five aboard and operated by Anatolian Balloons collided with another balloon. The balloon was flying over volcanoes known in Turkey as “fairy chimneys” when the collision with the other balloon’s basket caused the balloon to rip, and then it crashed.

The three fatalities Kohelman Ellen (76) Maria Luiza Gomes (71) and Mariua Rosas (65) were all Brazilian tourists. Twenty-two were injured. The injured were taken to Nevsehir and Kayseri hospitals.

Turkish Airlines Airbus Lightning strike, Engine Fire

On January 25, 2013, a Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-231 with 114 aboard en route from Istanbul-Atatürk was on approach to Izmir Turkey when the plane is reported to have suffered an engine fire in the right engine.

A report is circulating that the plane was struck by lightning.

Many of the passengers were reported to be in a panic, saying the plane was vibrating the whole flight, describe the loud noise of the strike, and also the smell of burning

The pilot made a safe landing on one engine.

Why: The Nordstar Airlines flight was en route over the Mediterranean sea when the plane lost cabin pressure.

Microlight Crash in Anatalya Turkey Kills Pilot and Foreign Tourist


December 24, 2012, a Microlight in Anatalya Turkey with two aboard crashed while touring.

A half hour after taking off, Pilot Joseph Karao?lu’nun Güzeloba and foreign tourist Mark Paris were killed.

The small plane flies below radar and cannot be detected. Authorities say the plane was likely overloaded. “The plane has a 70 liter tank and the engine can be removed.”

Prosecutors and crime scene investigation teams are workkng at the scene.

The remains were taken to the morgue for an autopsy at tye Institute of Forensic Medicine.

The weather was described as heavy fog and rain.

The official statement by Siirt province governor Ahmet Aydin was that the “… helicopter hit a hill due to unfavourable weather conditions caused by a thick fog and heavy rains.”
