When: October 28, 2009
Who: 147 on board
Why: On touchdown, after the plane’s tail struck the runway, the pilot performed a go-round. On the second pass, the plane landed safely.

Tailstrike on Landing Disables Russian Airbus

What: Rossiya Airbus A320-200 en route from Hurghada Egypt to Saint Petersburg Russia
Where: Saint Petersburg
When: Jul 7th 2009
Who: 176 passengers 6 crew
Why: On landing, the airbus had a tail strike, which disabled the plane. Substantial damage occurred to the tail. Russian press released that there were no injuries. The plane was taken out of service for repairs.

Northwest Tailstrike

What: Northwest Airlines Airbus A320-200 en route from Minneapolis, MN to Denver, CO
Where: Denver
When: May 4th 2009
Why: Resulting in (or from) 3.3G acceleration, the Airbus tail struck the ground. Damage was substantial/

The new headline is Emirates pilots resign. They “submitted their resignations.”

Curious to see why?

No matter what the pilots did or didn’t do, the tail should not scrape the run way on take off.

Good thing it didn’t catch fire and blow up.

Why: The plane suffered a tail strike on takeoff from Melbourne’s runway 16, climbed and dumped fuel, and when smoke filled the cabin, landed on Melbourne’s runway 34. Damage included some runway lights, damage to the tail skin and access panels.
