2 Killed After Small Plane Crashed in Punjab, Pakistan

A two-seater trainer plane crashed in Punjab, Pakistan, on February 24th.

The plane, belonging to Shaheen Air, went down shortly after taking off from a flight training school in Faisalabad, Punjab.

There were 2 people aboard at the time, including the instructor and trainee pilot. Both of them were killed in the crash.

The accident is being investigated.

Small Plane Crashed in Missouri; Two Injured

A small plane crashed near Gimlin Airport in Ozark, Missouri, on January 26th.

The plane carrying a flight instructor and a student pilot went down while it was attempting to land at the airport.

Both people aboard the plane were injured in the accident and were taken to hospital.

Small Plane Crashes in Jamaica; 2 Killed, 1 Critically Injured

A small plane crashed in Greenwich Town, Kingston, Jamaica, on November 10th.

The plane, belonging to Caribbean Aviation Training Centre, went down when it was carrying two students and an instructor.

The instructor and one of the students were killed in the crash while the other student was critically injured.

The incident is being investigated.

Military Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Florida

A military helicopter made an emergency landing near Century, Florida, on September 6th.

The incident happened when the TH 57 training helicopter from Naval Air Station Whiting Field was carrying a student and an instructor.

Authorities confirmed that both occupants of the aircraft remained uninjured.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Sunken Meadow Park

A Cessna 152 plane made an emergency landing at Sunken Meadow Park in Suffolk County, New York, on March 11th.

The plane was on a training flight when its engine failed, forcing the pilot to land on the beach.

There were two people aboard, including the instructor Robert Keleti, 61, and a student Bar Eliran, 43; none of them were injured.

Pilot Killed in Small Plane Crash near Pickens County Airport

A single-engine Piper Tomahawk aircraft crashed near the Pickens County airport, Jasper, Georgia, on October 8.

The incident happened when the plane, carrying a student pilot, was attempting touch-and-go landings at the airport.

The pilot Michael Joseph Hughes, of Blairsville, was killed in the crash.

According to National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Investigator Todd Gunther, “The airplane was then observed to go into what someone described as an aerodynamic stall, the nose pitched down and the airplane appeared to spin to the left until it disappeared behind trees.”

Viral Video Pilot’s Engagement Cut Short in Cachoeira do Sul


Last month, Arthur Demetrio must have been full of hope and good news when he took his girlfriend Thays Pereira da Cruz flying, and asked her to marry him by having his parents hold up banners saying “Thays Marry me” in an airfield in Cachoeira do Sul Brazil.

I wish this were the end of the story.

This Wednesday, Demetrio spoke to his fiancée Thays on the phone.
Later that day, his Cessna 140 aircraft was flying out of the airfield where he proposed.

He crashed in Cachoeira do Sul.

His student Darlan Kabata dos Santos, 31, and he both died. There was almost no warning, though Demetrio had time to tell ATC he was having plane trouble, something about the elevator, which controls the nose of the plane.

Officials informed his fiancée; she was the first to know. The family is devastated.

Arthur Demetrio will be buried in Santa Catarina, where he is from.

The accident is under investigation.

Student Pilot Crash in Jalisco Mexico


On an October 30, 2013 training flight, a Centro de Capacitacion Aereo Michoacan Cessna 152 out of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport lost power over Cajititian lake.

The pilot made a crash landing beside the lake. The pilot Andres Gonzalez, 20, tried to land in an unpopulated area when the plane developed a mechanical problem in the engine.

Emergency responders included firefighters and paramedics from Tiajomulco and El Salto. Gonzalez suffered only minor injuries.

la Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (Civil Aviation Directorate) will be investigating the incident in Cajititlán, Jalisco, Mexico.

Australia Ground Collision

On landing on Oct 24, 2013 at Hamilton Airport, a training flight in a Waikato Aero Club Tecnam P2008 struck a parked Cessna 172. The twenty-five year old student pilot, parked vehicle and training vehicle all suffered injury. The parked Cessna sustained the most damage.

Witnesses say that the pilot managed to get the plane under control as he was landing, reducing the severity of the incident. Impact occurred at low speed.

The plane came down hard, damaging the Tecnam’s undercarriage, and the pilot’s nose and back. The pilot is suffering from shock.

This is the first incident in the year old plane the student was flying. He was hospitalized at Waikato Hospital.

Midair Collision in Phoenix Kills 4


On May 31, 2013, a Transpac Aviation Academy Piper out of Deer Valley airport, and a Westwind School of Aeronautics Cessma were fifteen miles from the Deer Valley Airport when they collided.

Two people were aboard each flight, and there were no survivors.

The Cessna caught fire after impact.

Passengers names have not been released.

Trainer Flight Crashes in Modimola Dam, South Africa

On April 16, 2013, a Pearl Coral-owned de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth with two aboard crashed in Modimola Dam in Mmabatho in South Africa.

The training flight crashed into the water witnessed by a cattle herder near the dam.

When boats arrived to search, it was dark, and too late to search.

Initially, the occupants were assumed to be the pilot and an assistant; and it is assumed this was a trainer from Mafikeng Airport. The cause of the crash is unknown.

Police divers found the instructor in the water. The student pilot’s body was trapped inside the plane which was submerged in water with only its tail visible.

The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating.


Update
The fatalities were named by police as instructor Marthinus Steyn, 54, and student pilot Narco van Straaten, 23.

Military Training Crash in Yemen, 18 injured, 12 fatalities


During a training exercise, a Yemeni military fighter jet crashed in Sana’a, Yemen, killing the pilot—although one report says the pilot ejected. Witnesses hearing a loud explosion on impact, and report black smoke. The pilot was named as Mohamed Shaker. In addition to the pilot, there were 12 fatalities and 18 injuries.

The pilot was returning to base after a training mission and requested authorization to land when the aircraft lost altitude and crashed.

The plane was a Russian SU-22 that struck three buildings in al-Qadissiya near Change Square. It struck a building on Rabat Avenue, then hit another and ended up on a third building. Several cars were on fire. Five bodies that were recovered were burned beyond recognition.

All of the victims were civilians and included three women and two children. Several ambulances responded. Some reports said they took a long time to arrive.

An investigation is underway.

Four Die in Fiery Crash in Lomas de Zamora, BA Argentina.

On Feb 08 2013, a Centro Universitario de Aviación Cessna 172R Skyhawk #LV-GEU with four aboard took off from La Matanza – Club Universitario de Aviación for a student flight and crashed in Lomas de Zamora, BA Argentina.

The crash site is a property located at 1500 meters from the intersection of Belt Road and Avenue Juan XXIII, former Black Road, in Lomas de Zamora, in a field next to the Lomas de Zamora federal shooting range.Two passengers were expelled from the plane, and two trapped inside.

Ambulances struggling to get to the scene got lost because they had not established exact coordinates.

Two doctors were flying the plane. The 38 year old was piloting, and the 44 year-old was the co-pilot. Two passengers were aboard, one 45 years old, and one 20 years old. The names have not been released.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by ANAC and the police. Buenos Aires police personnel had custody of the outer perimeter of the crash site overnight.

Eyewitnesses say the plane ignited in the air but a pilot who was flying over during the crash say it ignited on impact with the ground.

Firefighters, police officers technicians, and the mayor of Lomas de Zamora, Martin Insaurralde were at the scene of the accident.

Student Pilot Crash in Settebagni Italy


On Feb 1 2013 in Settebagni Italy, an Aerotech Cessna FRA150 en route from Roma-Urbe Airport attempted an emergency landing near a runway at the flight school, made a forced landing and flipped. The National Agency for Flight Safety L’Agenzia nazionale per la sicurezza del volo (ANSV) is investigating the forced landing.

The two aboard the plane, the instructor and a student pilot were injured near Ring Road and the exit in Fiano Romano.

The plane sustained extensive damage.

The instructor and student were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries at 118 al Sant’Andrea for a lumbar trauma and trauma to the shoulder.

Parachute Saves 3 Lives in Connecticut “float”-Landing

On Jan 23, 2013, a single engine Kenyon Flight Cirrus SR20 was engaged in a training flight, Groton-Danbury, near Danbury Connecticut. Aboard was an instructor, the pilot trainee and a friend of the trainee. The pilot was on approach to Danbury Municipal Airport two miles away when the plane suffered a loss of power.

The pilot deployed a rocket-fired parachute system and floated down to land without hitting anything in a parking lot near South Street and Wixted Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. The parachute did become tangled with electrical wires.

The pilot and two passengers were injured but survived.

The parachute is being credited with saving their lives.

Power was cut to unentangle the parachute, resulting in an electrical outage that affected about a thousand homes.

Heli Rolls in Connecticut, No Injuries


On Jan 17, 2012, a Northeast Helicopters Flight Services LLC Robinson R22 landed in Ellington, Connecticut and rolled on its side. The student pilot and the teacher aboard were uninjured.

It was described as a hard landing at 360 Somers Road adjacent to the airport in Ellington at 12:45 pm. There was a minor fuel leak which was contained.

Trike Crash in Western Cape


On January 10, 2013, a Windlass Aquila Trike en route from Wintervogel Airfield with an instructor and student pilot took off on a training flight. Bystanders reported that the pilot turned back toward the airputt but crashed and caught fire.

Wintervogel is a private airfield near Klipheuwel in the Western Cape. The pilot was reported to be German, and the passenger from Tableview.

Paramedics and an emergency team responded to the scene but there were two fatalities.

Alabama Plane Crash Under Investigation

The seventeen year old student pilot who took off with two friends on a late-night flight New Year’s Day 2013(10:30 p.m. Tuesday) and crashed in north Alabama, killing everyone aboard was not following regulations at the time of the crash.

17-year-old Jordan Seth Montgomery and 19-year-old Brandon Tyler Ary, both of Arley were passengers aboard the plane.

A student pilot “may not act as pilot in command of an aircraft that is carrying a passenger.” Student Pilot Jordan Ryan Smith was one test away from his pilot’s license, according to family members.

The airport says the student pilot was flying a plane he wasn’t rated on, without permission, in overcast weather.

The NTSB investigation is ongoing.

Jasper Trainee Flips in High Wind, Survives Forced Landing


DEC 18, 2012, 10:30 a.m. A Jacksonville FLight Training Zenair CH-2000 Alarus flown by a student pilot was en route from Jacksonville to Suwannee County when it made a hard landing in a Hamilton Country field.

25-year-old Mao Borui was not seriously injured when the plane landed in Jasper Florida, although it flipped and broke the nose of the plane.

When the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, they called it a crash landing.

Sao Paulo Chopper Training Flight Crash


Dec 16 2012-An instructor and student of Rangel Escola de Avião Civil were injured during a training flight in a Robinson R-22 when it crashed at 19:30 near the Guarapiranga Dam in Sao Paulo Brazil.

The hard landing was close to 15796 M’Boi Mirim road in the Garden Angela, in jungle terrain and destroyed the helicopter. Passengers were conscious when the rescue team arrived. Three fire vehicles responded.

The instructor and the student pilot were admitted to Hospital das Clinicas and Hospital São Luís. The student’s head injuries are supposed to be not serious.

The Fire Department and “Team Eagle” helicopter and Military Police responded to the scene.

Two Die in Russian Flight School Engine Failure

Why: On November 7, 2012 at 2:36 pm, on the Petelino landing pad the Yak-18 RA-44302 Sasovskoye (Sasovo) flight school MTU CR FATA plane was in an accident.

The crew performed accounting and training flights. On board were the pilot/instructor and a third year student. According to preliminary information, the plane suffered an in-flight engine failure. When performing a forced landing the aircraft impacted with the ground. All aboard were killed. The accident is under investigation.

Dassault Mirage Crash in France

Why: A Mirage 2000-5 fighter crashed in Froideconche killing the Taiwanese pilot.

The pilot, who was on a training mission, crashed northeast of the town of Luxeuil Froideconche in a wooded area.

The accident is under investigation.

Student Pilot Crashes in Ukraine

What: Ukraine Ministry of Defense Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatross
Where: Chuhuiv, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine
When: Sept 22, 2012
Who: 1 fatality
Why: In Chuguev, a combat trainer aircraft L-39 crashed on the runway. The student pilot who was flying the plane when it crashed died at the scene.

The pilot was a third year student and had completed 71 flights.

The incident is under investigation. Use of L-39 planes has been suspended pending the investigation.

Instruction Flight Crashes in El Salvador

Where: Soyapango El Salvador
When: July 11, 2012
Who: 3 aboard, 3 fatalities
Why: After takeoff, the plane fell into a riverbed canyon. Three people died in the crash, pilot instructor Jose Miguel Avalos and his two students, Jose Antonio Martinez and Rodrigo Calles.

One died at the scene and two died at the hospital.
