LOT Polish Airlines flight LO-794 made an emergency landing in Riga, Latvia, on August 29th.

The plane took off for Warsaw, Poland, but had to turn back due to a brakes overheat indication.

The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

KLM Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Thailand

KLM flight KL-809 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Phuket, Thailand, on May 9th.

The Boeing 777-200 plane heading from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was diverted after a passenger’s cell phone overheated.

The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

AeroUnion Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Los Angeles

AeroUnion flight 6R-301 made an emergency landing in Los Angeles, California, on December 5th.

The Boeing 767-200 freighter plane took off for Guadalajara, Mexico, however, during the initial climb, one of the engines started emitting heavy smoke.

The crew subsequently turned back and landed safely. No injuries were reported.

Atlas Air Flight Returns to Hong Kong due to Engine Issue

Atlas Air flight 5Y-9413 had to return and make an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on November 23rd.

The Boeing 747-400 freighter plane took off for Narita International Airport, Japan, but had to turn back after the crew received an engine overheat indication.

The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Spirit Airlines Plane Returns to Texas due to Overheated Hydraulic System

Spirit Airlines flight NK-329 had to return and make an emergency landing at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, on July 7th.

The Airbus A319-100 flying to New Orleans, Louisiana, had to return due to an overheated hydraulic system.

The plane landed safely.

All 147 people aboard remained safe.

American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Indianapolis

American Airlines flight AA-1129 had to return and make an emergency landing in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 26th.

The plane took off for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew received an aft compartment overheat indication.

The plane landed back safely. All 124 people aboard remained unharmed.

British Airway Flight Makes Emergency Landing in France

British Airways flight BA-461 had to divert for an emergency landing in Bordeaux, France, on January 27th.

The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Madrid, Spain, to Heathrow Airport, United Kingdom, was diverted after an engine de-icing system overheated.

The plane was heading to Phoenix, Arizona, when the crew decided to turn back due to an engine anti ice light indication suggesting that the system had overheated.

Canadian North Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ottawa

Canadian NorthCanadian North flight 5T-436 had to return and make an emergency landing in Ottawa, Canada, on March 28th.

The Boeing 737-200 plane took off for Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine overheat indication.

United Flight 1179 had to return and make an emergency landing at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, California, on February 10th.

The Boeing 737 plane took off for Houston, Texas, but had to return shortly afterwards due to engine overheating.

The plane landed safely. All 162 passengers aboard remained unhurt.

Air Canada Flight Makes Emergency Landing at CFB Trenton

Air CanadaAir Canada flight 408 had to make an unscheduled landing at CFB Trenton in Ontario, Canada, on February 15.

The A-320, carrying 119 passengers and 5 crew members, was heading from Toronto to Montreal when the crew reported an overheated oven in the Galley.

The plane was then diverted to CFB Trenton where it landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

The airline arranged an alternate aircraft for the passengers.

Allegiant Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Nebraska

AllegiantAn Allegiant Air flight had to make an emergency landing at Central Nebraska Regional Airport, Grand Island, Nebraska, at around 3:30 p.m. on October 20.

The Flight 8502 was on its way from North Platte to Sioux City, Iowa, when a warning signal indicated that equipment at the back of the aircraft was overheating.

The plane landed uneventfully and all 6 people aboard, including 2 pilots and 4 crew members, remained unharmed.

The aircraft was taken for inspection.

When: May 2nd 2012
Who: 72 passengers
Why: Ten minutes after taking off, the pilots received an overheat indication from the left engine. They returned to Taipei and made a safe landing.

Croatia Jet Lands in Zagreb Minus Engine

What: Croatia Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400 en route from Vienna to Zagreb
Where: Zagreb
When: Apr 29th 2012
Who: 58 passengers
Why: The plane was on approach to Zabreb when the engine temperature became hot.

The left engine was shut down. Pilots made a safe landing. Croatia spokesman Davor Januši? said that the passengers were not at any time in danger.

The jet was temporarily withdrawn from service but back in rotation after ten hours and some replaced parts.

Allegiant Lands in Pittsburgh with One Engine Down

What: Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Youngstown to Orlando
Where: Pittsburgh
When: May 26 2011
Who: 142 passengers and 5 crew
Why: While en route, the right engine was running hot and low on oil. They shut down the engine and diverted to Pittsburgh where they made a safe landing. Maintenance examined the leaky engine.

A replacement jet was flown in.

Saudi Arabian Airlines Engine Shut Down

What: Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from London to Jeddah Saudi Arabia
Where: Rome
When: Apr 6th 2011
Who: 232 passengers
Why: While en route, an engine developed problems and was shut down. The pilots diverted to Rome and made a safe landing. The engine indicated that it was overheated; but the mechanism was faulty. Repairs were performed, after which the flight was continued.

Where: Regal Row and Empress Row
When: March 18, 2011, 9:30
Who: 3 passengers
Why: A helicopter a mile and a half from Dallas Love Field Airport had to make an emergency landing at the intersection of Regal Row and Empress Row when an air conditioning belt overheated.

There were no injuries.

Jamaica: American Airlines Emergency Landing

What: American Airlines Boeing 757 en route from Quito, Ecuador to Miami, Florida
Where: Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport in St James
When: 2:14 pm
Who: 155 passengers, 8 crew
Why: While en route over the Cayman Islands, the plane developed a temperature indication warning on the right hand engine. The flight made an emergency landing. Passengers disembarked normally without injury. The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority is investigating.

Why: While en route, the system indicated an overheat. The crew returned to Phoenix where they made a safe landing. A replacement jet was provided for passengers.

Not that it applies, but the Thursday high for Phoenix was 102 o.

Why: After takeoff, the left engine made a loud noise and overheated. The crew shut down the affected engine, and returned the plane to Churchill where they made a safe landing.

What: SpiceJet Boeing 737 en route from Coimbatore to Chennai
Where: Chennai
When: Dec 20, 2009, 11.25am
Who: 121 passengers
Why: While en route (near final approach), one engine developed problems, overheated and was shut down. The flight was declared an emergency and landed safely at its destination. Apparently a generator failed, and that lead to the engine overheating, but hydraulics were not affected.

An article attributes the emergency to landing gear not operating. However, this may be referring to a separate incident, as the date and time and vehicle registration on both events is not clear. (yet)

Why: While en route, the plane’s generator began running too hot. The flight diverted to Nagoya where they made a safe landing. The cause of the problem appeared to be a faulty cable.

Passengers transferred to alternative flights.
