Air Astana Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Beja Airport

Air Astana flight KC-1388 made an emergency landing at Beja Airport, Portugal, on November 11th.

The plane took off from Alverca Airport, Portugal, but lost control shortly afterwards. The crew declared an emergency and subsequently landed safely at Beja Airport.

The airline confirmed that the plane was carrying six crew members and that there were no passengers aboard.

Portuguese Air Force had also dispatched F16 fighter jets to escort the plane.

Medical Helicopter Crashes in Oklahoma; No Casualties

A medical helicopter crashed outside Comanche County Medical Hospital in Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma, on the morning of September 29th.

According to sources, the helicopter was attempting to make emergency landing due to some issue, when it lost control and crashed.

All four people onboard including the pilot remained unhurt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Small Planes Hit Each Other during Parachutist Competition; 4 Killed

Two small planes crashed into each other near Godollo, Pest County, Budapest, Hungary, on September 18th.

The planes collided during a parachutist competition, when one of them lost contact with the air control.

4 people list their lives in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Light Plane Crashes into Mountains in Macedonia; 6 Killed

A light plane crashed into the mountains in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, on September 7th.

The aircraft travelling from Treviso, Italy, lost contact with the control centre just six miles away from Skopje Airport.

All 6 people onboard were killed in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Mongolian Airlines Plane Rejects Takeoff in Mongolia after Losing Directional Control

MIATMongolian Airlines flight OM-7056 had to reject taking off at Khovd Airport, Khovd, Mongolia, on May 3rd.

The Boeing 737-800 was accelerating to takeoff for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, when the crew lost directional control and it went over soft ground, prompting the crew to abort the takeoff.

The plane received minor damage.

All 90 passengers aboard remained safe and they were rebooked onto other flights.

The incident remains under investigation.

Small Plane Crashed on Lake Gaston, North Carolina

A small plane crashed on Lake Gaston, North Carolina, on April 24th.

The 2005 Maule 235 single engine-plane was attempting to land when the pilot lost control and it flipped three times.

There were three people aboard, including the pilot Paul Heaton, of Roanoke Rapids, and two passengers; none of them were hurt.

The incident is being investigated.

Beechcraft Crash in Texas

What: O’Neal Aviation LLC Beechcraft E90 King Air en route from Amarillo to Fort Worth
Where: Armstrong County Texas
When: Dec 14, 2012
Who: pilot
Why: The pilot was en route and ten minutes into the flight when he lost control.Witnesses saw the plane go down south of Farm-to-Market Road 1258 in Armstrong County.

The pilot was killed. The plane disappeared from radar at 6 pm. The debris field was located on Dec 14.

Helicopter Crashes in Indonesia with 27 aboard


What: Nyaman Air Mil Mi-8MTV
Where: Tembagapura, Mimika, Papua Indonesia
When: Oct 9, 2012
Who: 27 aboard
Why: The chopper made a hard landing near mile 66. Twenty four or five passengers (18 Indonesians and seven citizens of other countries) and three crew survived the landing, though the helicopter sustained damage.

There were no fatalities, but the number of those aboard has been reported from 27 to 29 with either 2 or 3 crew, and 24 or 25 passengers.

US PT Freeport Indonesia evacuated the passengers who were hospitalized briefly with minor injuries.

A Russian news report said that two of the pilots were Russians.

Right after takeoff, the flight lost altitude and struck a tree.

Helicopter Pilot Walks Away from Hard Landing


What: Enstrom F-28F helicopter en route from Elko, Nevada to Twin Falls Idaho
Where: Twin Falls, Idaho.
When: May 20, 2012
Who: Pilot
Why: The pilot reported that ten miles south of the Twin Fall Airport, he contacted the control tower that was inbound for landing. However, then he told ATC that he would not be able to make it to the airport with the problems he was having.

He subsequently made a precautionary landing to an open field with control problems with the helicopter. During landing, the helicopter’s tail boom separated from the aircraft.

The pilot is the owner of the helicopter, and was not injured.

North Carolina Private Cessna Crash and Burns on Landing

What: Cessna 501 Citation I/SP en route from Venice Florida to Macon County, NC
Where: Franklin-Macon County Airport, NC
When: Mar 15, 2012
Who: 2 crew, 3 passengers, 5 fatalities
Why: The plane owned by Bogdan Jakubowski of Venice, Florida appeared to be approaching too steeply when it attempted to land at 1:45, and when the pilot tried to level, a wing hit pavement, flipping and rolling the plane, which exploded into flames. Rescuers were on the scene within a minute but the plane was already engulfed. The names of those aboard have not been released.

Single Engine Plane Crashes in Cote d’Ivoire, UN Attempts Rescue

What: Aéro-club d’Abidjan Piper PA-28-161 Warrior II
Where: Near Daloa Airport, Cote d’Ivoire
When: Nov 14, 2011 5 p.m.
Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
Why: After taking off from Daloa, the Aero-club-owned Cessna crashed.

Witnesses say the pilot was clearly in trouble and the plane made several pirouettes in the air before falling.

Initially there was one survivor who died in the hospital. The UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire responded to the scene of the crash, and the UN’s Bangladeshi batallion (BANBATT) assisted in the recovery.

The pilot was a local pilot. The three white foreigners have not been identified but one had been hired by a local logging company.

What: Bedrock Investments LLC single-engine Cessna 150 training flight
Where: Corona Airport, California
When: April 12, 2011
Who: Flight instructor and student pilot
Why: Whoever was flying lost control during takeoff and crashed into the hanger at Corona Municipal Airport. Both aboard were injured, one seriously enough to be evacuated to the hospital while unconscious. The hanger door is damaged, and the plane is a total loss.

Russia: Helicopter Crashes, 7 dead, 3 survive

What: NARZ Mi-8T helicopter RA-22376 en route from Kyshtovka
Where: Strezhevoy, Omsk Region Krapivinskoye field
When: Nov 25, 2010, 12:12
Who: 7 crew
Why: It is reported that on approach, the helicopter went into uncontrollable rotation with subsequent separation of the end beam and the screw gear , then it fell on its side about 50 yards from the landing site. With tanks filled with fuel, they ignited, and the helicopter exploded. It was reported there were 7 crew fatalities and 3 surviving boat crew. Three survivors, who are in the hospital, are Chernov Stanislavski, Kosolapov Victor Ye, Laktyuhin Oleg. Two are stable, one has burns. The helicopter was carrying 1600 kg of food.
