Qantas Flight Diverts to Perth due to Fuel Pump Issue

Qantas flight QF-64 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Perth, Australia, on October 6th.

The Boeing 747-400 plane heading from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Sydney, Australia, was diverted due to an issue with a fuel pump.

The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Delta Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Narita International Airport

Delta Airlines flight DL-588 made an emergency landing at Narita International Airport, Japan, on September 23rd.

The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Shanghai, China, to Seattle, Washington, was diverted due to a failed fuel pump.

The plane landed safely. All two hundred and twenty people aboard remained unharmed.

Thomas Cook Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

Thomas Cook Airlines flight MT-992 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on October 15th.

The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Birmingham, England, to Hurghada, Egypt, was diverted after the crew reported an issue with a fuel pump.

The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

Swiss International Air Lines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Senegal

Swiss International Air Lines flight LX-92 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Dakar, Senegal, on March 13th.

The Airbus A340-300 plane heading from Zurich, Switzerland, to Sao Paulo, Brazil, was diverted due to an issue with the fuel pump.

The plane landed safely. There were 215 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

Helvetic Airways Flight Returns to Zurich due to Fuel Pump Problem

Helvetic Airways flight LX-454 had to return and make an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland, on February 10th.

The Embraer ERJ-190 plane took off for London, United Kingdom, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an issue with a fuel pump.

The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

Turkish Airlines Plane Diverts to Tunisia due to Fuel Pump Issue

Turkish airlinesTurkish Airlines flight TK-679 diverted and made an emergency landing at Tunis–Carthage International Airport, Tunisia, on October 31.

The Boeing 737-900, en-route from Istanbul, Turkey, to Yaounde, Cameroon, had to divert due to some issue with its fuel pump.

The plane landed safely.

No one was injured.

Qantas A380 Jet Diverts to Perth International Airport

QantasQantas flight QF2 had to divert and make an unscheduled landing at Perth International airport, Western Australia, on August 31.

According to the airline, “While travelling to Sydney from Dubai, the pilots received an indication that there was a technical issue with the aircraft so they diverted to Perth to have the issue repaired by our engineering team before continuing on to Sydney…There was a technical issue with one of the fuel pumps. There was no emergency landing.”

The 484-seater A380 jet landed safely and everyone aboard remained unhurt.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Lake County

A small plane made an emergency landing in St. Ignatius, Lake County, Montana, on August 3.

According to Lake County Sheriff Don Bell, the pilot decided to land on a small cherry tree after the plane’s fuel pump malfunctioned.

The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained unharmed.

An Embraer EMB-201A Ipanema was en route from Paracatu MG to Goinia when the pilot had to make a forced landing in a field. The plane was commonly used as a cropduster.

The plane had had a fuel supply problem before but apparently this time the problem was in the fuel pump/power system.

The pilot was uninjured but the plane sustained some damage. There was no fire, but firefighters were on hand, and there was a fuel leak.

Centro de Investigação e Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronáuticos (Cenipa) will be investigating.

Southwest Airlines Emergency Landing

December 25, 2012, a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 en route from Denver to Kansas City International diverted to Omaha and made a safe landing at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield. None of the 109 passengers and five crew members were injured.

The plane developed a fuel valve problem while en route.

Passengers were provided an alternative vehicle.

American Airlines Lands over Fuel Pump Issues

What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Pittsburgh,PA
Where: near Dallas
When: Nov 19th 2011
Why: Just after take-off, the pilot switched the fuel supply from center fuel tank to main wing tanks and the right engine flamed out.

Pilots returned to the airport and made a safe landing.

Maintenance is investigating why operating pumps were working, yet failing to provide fuel to the right engine.

MD-83 Emergency Landing in Copenhagen

What: Danish Air Transport McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Aalborg Denmark to Keflavik Icelandd
Where: Kastrup Airport, Copenhagen
When: Mar 4 2010
Who: crew
Why: While en route, the crew got a low fuel message and diverted to Copenhagen. The problem turned out to be fuel pump feed line pressure.

Where: Moscow
When: Dec 20th 2009
Who: 189 passengers and 12 crew
Why: While en route, the crew received a fuel pump warning. The flight diverted to Moscow where the plane landed safely. Passengers were provided an alternative plane.

When: Nov 6th 2009
Who: 329 passengers
Why: The flight taxied out for departure but returned to the gate twice, and after eventually departing, two hours later the fuel pump failed. The plane returned to Sydney. Even the return to Sydney was delayed for another hour by bad weather.

Where: Tampa International Airport.
When: 09/07/2009
Who: 150 passengers and crew
Why: The pilot reported a fuel problem prior to making a safe landing at TIA. Fire crews were waiting, but the flight landed without further incident.

Why: The crew reported a “fuel transfer problem.” and was forced to return to Los Angeles International Airport

Emergency Landing at Meilan International Airport


What: Shanghai Airlines Boeing 737 flight FM833, en route to from Shanghai to Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Where: Meilan International Airport in Haikou in south Hainan province
When: late Wednesday night Nov. 19, 2008
Who: 149 passengers
Why: After an alarm light came on indicating a mechanical problem with a fuel pump, the plane diverted to Meilan International Airport. Mechanics found that one of the plane’s two hydraulic pressure pumps was damaged, causing hydraulic oil to leak. The hydraulic oil caused a large amount of smoke. Passengers were provided water and instant noodles.
