Small Plane Crashes into Texas River; 2 Killed

A single-engine Cessna plane crashed into Trinity River near Highway 105, Liberty County, Texas, on the evening of September 3rd.

According to sources, there were two men onboard and the pilot was doing flips and barrel rolls before the plane crashed.

The pilot and his friend lost their lives in the crash.

Cessna Flips on Runway Excursion

A privately owned Cessna 210 airplane #N6942R flipped over after running off the Lodi runway during a landing excursion at 3 p.m. On October 23, 2013. The pilot reported no injury. The plane had substantial damage.

The Woodbridge Fire Dept responded to the scene.

The FAA Database reported that AIRCRAFT ON LANDING WENT OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPED OVER, LODI, CA

The plane’s registration is N6942R and the owner is AWAN MAQSOOD.

Float Plane Down with Three Aboard in Georgian Bay


On July 4, a North-Way Chrysler Motors Ltd. Cessna 182 Skylane with three aboard was near Griffith Island in Georgian bay and flipped as the pilot was trying to land at an island airstrip but came to rest 220 meters short of the runway. All three aboard succumbed to fatal injuries.

The float plane crash occurred off the south end of the Griffith Island. The fatalities were family members 45, 52 and 72.

A Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre out of Trenton, On circled the downed plane. Three ambulances were on standby at Big Bay dock.

When assistance arrived, the plane was upside down and partially submerged. The Grey County OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP and Cape Croker police marine units attended, along with Grey and Bruce County paramedics, Inter Township firefighters, Owen Sound firefighters and the Ministry of Natural Resources were dispatched to the scene. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada’s air division arrived Friday.

Wheels Down on Lake Päijänne

On May 20, two people aboard a float plane were safe after the pilot landed in Lake Päijänne Finland with the wheels down.

Neither the pilot or passenger had more than minor injuries, though the plane flipped on landing after the pilot forgot. Both pilot and passenger had minor bruises and a “cold bath.”

After the plane flipped, the men climbed on top of the cabin to await rescue.

Plane Lands in Donetsk Fog and Fire, Four Fatalities

On Feb 13, 2013, a South Airlines An-23 en route from Odessa to Donetsk landed short of the runway in heavy fog, flipped over and caught fire.

There were thirty-nine survivors who managed to evacuate. Four people were confirmed dead. About a dozen people were injured.

There were forty-five passengers and crew. The flight had been chartered for soccer fans going to the UEFA Champions League game between Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund. The flight manifest has not yet been released.

Update: According to one source, the An-24RV was built in 1973. In 2009, it had 50,100 hours. Passengers were fans, including men and women and one boy; 36 passengers and 8 crew though these makeup of numbers vary according to the source. Another source says 4 crew.

The gears reportedly broke into three on touchdown on soft ground.

Plane Flips on Emergency Field Landing De Kalb

What: Auman T-51
Where: De Kalb, IL

Who: pilot
Why: After taking off from De Kalb Airport, the Auman T-51 developed engine trouble, losing altitude and emitting smoke.

Pilot James L Auman landed the plane in a field, then bounced and flipped. Plane and pilot both sustained substantial damage. Auman had to be extricated, then was taken by medical chopper to St. Anthony Hospital.

Two aboard Piper Crashed in Creve Coeur Lake, Maryland Heights

What: Piper PA-28 Cherokee#N55620 en route from Delaware, Ohio to Creve Coeur airport.
Where: Creve Coeur Lake, Maryland Heights
When: Oct 24, 2012
Who: 2 aboard
Why: While attempting a landing on the shore, the piper that crashed into Creve Coeur Lake had two occupants, pilot Russell Hazelton, 78 who died at DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton and passenger Suzanne Hazelton, 69 who was on life support. The plane flipped on to its back during the attempted landing.

Lake Saint Louis Fire Protection District dive team, police and rescue services were on hand for the recovery.

Vintage Sightseeing Plane Belly Up after Rockcliffe Sightseeing Tour, No Fatalities

Why: On landing after a sightseeing excursion, a 73 year old biplane plane flipped on the runway. The 66 and 64 year old passengers were hospitalized with minor injuries. The 53 year old pilot (Gary) went home. Fire crews applied foam to the leaked fuel and flipped the plane right side up.
