Arkefly Flight Diverts to Ottawa International Airport

arkefly-logoAn Arkefly flight had to make an emergency landing at Ottawa International Airport in Ontario, Canada, on August 12th.

The pilots declared medical emergency after a female elderly passenger died on-board. The Amsterdam-bound B787 Dreamliner had just taken off from Toronto Pearson International Airport at the time.

The plane safely landed in Ottawa.

According to public information officer for Ottawa Paramedic Service J.P. Trottier, “The person had no vital signs on board… There were some doctors on board and CPR was started. Upon landing, paramedics took over with other treatments, but she was declared deceased.”

What: ArkeFly Boeing 767-304ER (WL) en route from Amsterdam to Colombo.
Where: Goa-Dabolim Airport
When: October 27, 2011
Who: 263 aboard
Why: On takeoff from Goa-Dabolim Airport, the plane ran into a flock of birds. The bird strike ended up with several birds ingested into an engine.

The pilot didn’t have to make an emergency landing, as he had not actually left the runway. He just braked, and the passengers were able to disembark safely.

What: Arkefly Boeing 737-800 en route from Amsterdam to Hurgada Egypt
Where: Stuttgart
When: December 17, 2010
Who: 183 aboard
Why: While en route from Amsterdam, smoke was detected in the cabin, apparently originating from a galley fire. The flight, which made a safe landing in Germany is believed to be the same plane which diverted to Amsterdam today after passengers were suffering from fumes from De-icing fluid. The jet was ferried back to Amsterdam.

When: Dec 16th 2010
Who: 178 passengers
Why: About half an hour into the flight, people aboard began complaining they were being affected by fumes aboard the plane. Both passengers and crew complained of nausea. Returning to Amsterdam, the plane made a safe landing and those affected were treated at the airport. The fumes were assumed to be from de-icing compounds.

Terror Halts Arkefly Flight

What: Arkefly Boeing 767 Amsterdam to Aruba
Where: Shannon Airport in Ireland
When: 1030 GMT
Who: 231 passengers (?) 11 crew
Why: While over the Atlantic, the pilot asked to divert to Shannon, when a passenger began making threats, and acting aggressively. The Arkefly Boeing made a safe emergency landing at Shannon Airport, and stranding passengers there.

The security alert was concerning a 44 year old Dutchman who was traveling alone went from being unruly to making bomb threats. After being taken off the plane, the man has been in official custody, held at Shannon Garda station and arrested under the Air Navigation and Transport Act. The plane was towed to a secure remote location for a police search.

A replacement flight was provided by Arkefly.
