Allegiant makes Duluth Emergency Landing One Engine Down

What: Allegient Air McDonnell Douglas jet en route from Duluth to Las Vegas
Where: Duluth
When: May 18, 2012, 9 p.m.
Who: 140 passengers, 5 crew
Why: While en route about fifteen minutes into the flight, passengers on Allegiant Air Duluth-Las Vegas heard a loud bang. Pilots declared emergency.

Fifty miles into the flight, pilots shut down the affected engine, and returned to Duluth International Airport. Emergency services including National Guard, firefighters and emergency responders were on stand by.

Passengers were offered $50 vouchers and the opportunity to stay at the Residence Inn. Passengers were told that the replacement flight departed at 2:30 p.m. Saturday but it did not depart until 3:55 pm. Meanwhile, Allegiant Mechanics removed the ailing engine from the disabled plane.

Flight 679 Allegiant Wing Strikes Fuel Truck

What: Allegiant Airlines MD-83 en route from Springfield Branson Airport to Orlando
Where: Sanford Florida
When: May 18, 2012 19:18
Why: On the ground during taxi, the MD-83’s left wing struck a fuel truck.

No injuries were reported. There was some minor damage to the airplane.

Allegiant Air Emergency Landing in Las Vegas

What: Allegiant Air MD80 en route from Duluth to Las Vegas
Where: Duluth International Airport
When: May 18, 2012 9 pm
Who: 141 passengers, 5 crew
Why: Fifty miles into the flight, the engine made an explosive noise. Pilots came online and made an announcement to passengers that they had blown an engine.

Pilots returned to Duluth where they made a safe landing. Emergency services made up of Air National Guard and Duluth Fire Department were on standby. Passengers were clapping when they were on the ground.

A replacement jet was called and the fight is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported.

Orlando: Allegiant Bird strike

What: Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Orlando Sanford,FL to Huntingdon,WV
Where: Orlando
When: Apr 15th 2012
Why: On takeoff from Orlando, the jet encountered a bird.

After the bird strike, pilots elected to return to Sanford International Airpor where they made a safe landing.

Emergency Diversion Delays Allegiant Bellingham-Paine Field-Bellingham-San Diego

What: Allegiant Air MD-80 en route from Bellingham to San Diego
Where: Paine Field Airport
When: Mar 26th 2012
Who: 160 passengers (155/5)
Why: The flight was en route when the plane developed hydraulic systems problems.

Pilots diverted to Snohomish County Airport where they made a safe landing with a total of thirty rescue personnel on scene: Two foam trucks and a rescue truck, seven personnel, three engines, a ladder truck, and two medic units responded.

A replacement jet was provided, which took off from Bellingham. Passengers were transported from Snohomish County Airport back to Bellingham for the replacement flight which proceeded without error.

A little bit of one step forward, one step back action, but apparently the passengers managed to get to San Diego seven hours later.

Hard Landing, Blown Tires, Pilot Lands Safe in Vegas

What: Allegiant Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Des Moines to Las Vegas
Where: Las Vegas
When: Mar 17th 2012
Who: 147 passengers and 5 crew
Why: On landing, the plane bounced. Trailing smoke from two blown tires, the plane stopped on the runway, where passengers disembarked and were bussed to the terminal.

The right main gear tires blew, and the left main gear sustained damage. No injuries were reported.

Allegiant Air emergency landing in Wilmington

What: Allegiant Air en route from Orlando Florida to Plattsburgh New York
Where: North Carolina
When: October 23, 2011
Who: 145 passengers
Why: While en route, the pilots saw an indication of an oil pressure problem and diverted to Wilmington where they made a safe landing.

The flight made a safe landing in Wilmington.

Allegiant Lands in Pittsburgh with One Engine Down

What: Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Youngstown to Orlando
Where: Pittsburgh
When: May 26 2011
Who: 142 passengers and 5 crew
Why: While en route, the right engine was running hot and low on oil. They shut down the engine and diverted to Pittsburgh where they made a safe landing. Maintenance examined the leaky engine.

A replacement jet was flown in.

Smoke and Fumes Send Allegiant MD-83 Back to Mesa

What: Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Mesa to Pasco Washington

Why: After the flight took off from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, the cockpit developed smoke and the pilots smelled fumes. They reported the emergency, and returned to the airport where they made a safe landing with 50 firefighters on standby.

Maintenance inspected the affected plane.

Passengers were rebooked on an 11:00 flight.

Orlando-Kentucky: Allegiant Air Emergency landing

What: Allegiant Air MD80 en route from Orlando to Kentucky

Why: After taking off from Orlando, the plane developed (or already had) a problem with the hydraulics.

The pilot made a safe return to Orlando, without injury. Passengers were provided an alternative flight and/or hotel accommodations, and an alternative flight Saturday.

Allegiant Flies to Vegas with Damaged Nose Gear Tire

What: Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Cedar Rapids to Las Vegas

When: Oct 22 2010
Why: On takeoff, the plane blew a “front” tire. However, the flight continued to Las Vegas as scheduled. They landed with emergency crews on standby, and after landing taxied to the edge of the runway. The tire was repaired, and the plane continued to the gate, where passengers disembarked.

Fire Alarm over Grand Forks; Safe Landing

What: Allegiant Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Grand Forks to Las Vegas

Why: Not long after takeoff, fire detectors went off aboard the flight. The crew entered a holding pattern over Grand Forks, then made a safe landing about half an hour after takeoff.

Why: While en route, the right engine indicated a fire. Pilots shut it down and diverted to Flagstaff where they made a safe landing.

Some passengers who incurred minor injuries while evacuating down the emergency slide were hospitalized.

What: Allegiant Air McDonnell Douglas MD-87 en route from Wichita,KS to Bulkhead City, AZ
Where: Wichita Mid-Continent
When: November 19, 2009
Who: 125 passengers and 5 crew
Why: While en route, the plane recorded an engine fire indication. The left engine made an explosive noise and flames were visible coming from the (left) engine. The flight returned to the airport. The flight landed safely. Some passengers debarked via slides and some debarked via stairs.

Several were injured on the slides.

Allegiant Lands Engine on Fire

What: Allegiant Air McDonnell Douglas MD-87 en route from Wichita to Bulkhead City, AZ.
Where: Wichita’s Mid-Continent airport
When: Wednesday Nov 18
Who: 125 passengers and five crew members (also reported as 126p./6c)
Why: Taking off after a refueling stop, the left MD-80 engine made an explosive noise, and shot flames. The flight returned to Mid-Continent airport for a safe landing.
When the airport fire department met the plane, they saw flames erupting from the left engine, and they foamed it to put it out.

Passengers debarked by stairs and some by slide. One individual suffered a minor injury. Passengers were provided hotel accommodations until the flight replacement on Thursday, although another source said they were on the road again within 6 hours.

While en route, cabin filled with the scent of burnt plastic. The crew decided to divert to Las Vegas, where the cause was determined to be a light bulb. One passenger debarked in Las Vegas before the flight continued on to Los Angeles.

Who: 130 passengers and 5 crew members
Why: After reporting smoke in the cockpit, the crew diverted to the Las Vegas airport. There were no injuries. The replacement flight is not expected to arrive in Grand Junction until after 6 pm.
