7 Killed as Helicopter Crashed into Glacier in New Zealand

A helicopter crashed into the Fox Glacier in New Zealand on November 21.

The authorities said the Eurocopter “Squirrel” helicopter, operated by Alpine Adventures, was carrying six passengers and a pilot when it went down.

Everyone aboard was killed in the crash. The deceased include the pilot Mitch Gameren, 28, of New Zealand, four British tourists, two Australians and a New Zealander.

The cause of crash is being investigated.

Ukrainian Helicopter Crashed in Slovakia; 6 Killed

A Ukrainian helicopter crashed near Stretavka village, in Zilina, eastern Slovakia, on November 13.

According to the Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kalinak, pilot of the Russian-made Mi2 “was doing dangerous manoeuvrs especially in very bad weather conditions because he was flying very low.”

Six people lost their lives in the crash.

The accident is being investigated.

Pilot Killed as Helicopter Crashes in Saskatchewan

A helicopter crashed in a field in Kinley, Saskatchewan, Canada, on October 27.

Authorities said the aircraft went down while it was heading from Calgary to Saskatoon.

The 48-year-old pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash. His name has not yet been released.

Spanish Military Helicopter Crashes in Atlantic Ocean; 3 Crew Members Missing

The Super Puma helicopter, carrying a captain, a lieutenant and sergeant, went down after taking off from Mauritania. Authorities said the chopper had been involved in military exercises in Dakar, Senegal and stopped at Mauritania for refueling.

All 3 crew members went missing after the crash. A search operation is underway.

Indian Air Force Chopper Makes Precautionary Landing in Mumbai

An Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter made an emergency landing at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, India, on the afternoon of October 21.

The MI-17 chopper was on a routine training sortie when it had to make a precautionary landing after developing a technical snag.

The aircraft landed uneventfully.

All 4 passengers aboard remained safe.

Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Chicago Parking Lot

A helicopter made an emergency landing in a parking lot in Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, on October 14.

The aircraft was heading from O’Hare International Airport to Peoria, Illinois, when the pilot noticed oil leak and decided to land in parking lot of a Menard’s.

The helicopter landed safely. The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained unhurt.

The aircraft is registered to Rotor Holdings LLC, of Hampton, New Hampshire.

5 Killed after NATO helicopter Crashes in Kabul

A helicopter crashed at NATO’s Resolute Support Mission headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan, on October 11.

Authorities said the British Puma Mk 2 helicopter crashed while landing at the headquarters.

Five people were killed in the crash. The deceased include 2 U.S. service members, 2 British service members and a French civilian contractor. Their names have not yet been released.

Authorities said the Bell 430 went down near El Lencero airport, Xalapa.

The 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter took off from Fort Carson and was on a routine training flight when it went down.

There were 4 soldiers on-board at the time; all of them were injured. They were taken to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

2nd Combat Aviation Brigade’s Chopper Makes Emergency Landing in South Korea

chopperA chopper, belonging to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, made an emergency landing near Camp Humphreys, located close to South Korea’s Anjeong-ri and Pyeongtaek metropolitan areas, on August 24.

The OH –58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter was on a routine maintenance flight around the camp when it had to land in emergency.

Both pilots sustained minor injuries.

Kruger National Park Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing

Three KNP officials were aboard the helicopter when it experienced engine failure and power loss, forcing the pilot to land in emergency. It is believed that they were helping an on-ground game capture team in search of 2 missing rhinos.

The helicopter landed uneventfully and everyone aboard remained safe.

Managing executive of KNP Glenn Phillips, “We are grateful that our employees are all safe and no one was hurt; even grateful that the game capture team managed to recover the animals and ensure their safe return to the park.”

American Pilot, 5 Others Killed in Lagos Helicopter Crash

Authorities said the helicopter, operated by the Bristow Group, nose-dived into water behind a police station. It was transporting 12 people to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, from an offshore oil rig at the time.

Six people, including an American pilot, were killed in the crash. Six others were injured and were taken to nearby hospitals.

7 Injured as U.S. Military Helicopter Crash-Lands in Japan

helicopterA U.S. military chopper crash-landed around 20 miles east of Okinawa Island in Japan at around 1:46 p.m. on August 12th.

The incident happened when the UH-60 Black Hawk, carrying 17 people, was on a training mission. According to the U.S. Pacific Command, it crash-landed on the USNS Red Cloud cargo vessel.

Seven people were injured and were taken to a U.S. naval hospital on the Island.

Helicopter Crashed in Illinois after Hitting Power Line; Pilot Injured

According to sources, the aircraft hit a power line, caught fire, and landed in a soy bean field.

The pilot, who was the only person aboard, was pulled out of the burning helicopter by farm owner. He was airlifted to Peoria, Illinois, in serious condition.

The NTSB and Illinois State Police were investigating the crash.

Canadian Air Force Helicopter Makes Precautionary Landing in Mineville

A Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter made a precautionary landing on a cul-de-sac in Mineville, Nova Scotia, Canada, at 10:40 A.M. on July 7.

The company released a statement saying, “Bristow Helicopters Ltd can confirm that one of its helicopters requested priority landing at Aberdeen Airport today… A caution light falsely displayed causing the false alarm. The airport emergency services attended as per standard practice, but no assistance was required.”

Pilot Killed as Crop-Dusting Helicopter Crashed in California

A crop dusting helicopter, owned by Gomes Farm Air Service, crashed in a field near Salinas in California, at around 9 a.m. on June 20.

FAA spokesperson Allen Kenitzer confirmed that the pilot of Bell 47-G5 helicopter was killed in the crash. He was identified as the co- owner of Gomes Farm Air Service, Frank Gomes Jr.

The cause of incident is being investigated by the FAA.

Border Protection Chopper Fired-on Near Texas-Mexico Border

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter had to make an emergency landing in La Bota Ranch, Laredo, Texas, on June 5.

According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson, “The helicopter was impacted by gunfire, hitting the side of the aircraft and the rotor blade… The pilot was able to make a safe landing, there were no injuries.”

The FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, USCBP, Laredo Police Department and Texas Rangers responded to the area.
