Romania FireFighting Helicopter Crashes, 5 Ukranian fatalities

What: Pecotox Air Kamov Ka-32 en route from Moldova to Turkey
Where: Ostrov Village, Romania

Why: Two civilian Ka-32 helicopters were flying to Turkey to be used to fight forest fires performing a visual flight in uncontrolled airspace. They were intending to stop at Ostrov MK Constanta Airport to refuel.

Everyone aboard the flight was Ukranian. A team of forensic prosecutors and criminal investigators headed by Marius Iacob, have arrived Thursday at the accident site, a remote region of eastern Romania. Specialists from the National Institute of Criminology of the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police are assisting.

After one helicopter crashed, the second landed safely, hoping to provide first aid for the victims. No one survived the crash.

The Soviet Kamov helicopter can 13 passengers and two pilots. Only five were aboard the crashed helipcopter.
