Martin County Texas Helicopter Fatalities

A Haverfield Aviation Hughes 369 outside of Midland Texas was engaged in a routine power line inspection at ten a.m. when the helicopter encountered problems.

Haverfield Aviation performs Aerial Power Line Inspection And Maintenance.

The helicopter flew into powerlines.

The pilot survived. Two linemen suspended from the helicopter by cables fell two hundred feet when the cables snapped.

The helicopter made a safe landing.

OSHA and the FAA are investigating.

Hughes Helicopter Ditches in Finland


On January 10, 2013, a Heliwest Oy Hughes 369 D was engaged to work on Tampere power plant’s power lines when it developed engine failure. The pilot made an emergency landing in Paavolantie, Kämmenniemi, near Tampere Finland.

The helicopter was damaged and the pilot was injured.

THe helicopter made a forced landing.

Who: 2 aboard, 1 fatality
Why: While hovering above ground, the aircraft was holding a passenger suspended fifty feet below. THe passenger was working on a power line a hundred feet above ground.

The helicopter lost power and fell. Pilot Keith Hard was sustained back injuries in the crash and was hospitalized at Childress Regional Medical Canter. Jonathan David Suhr was working on the power line and impacted the ground when the helicopter fell. Suhr was taken to Childress Regional Medical Center where he died.

The NTSB is investigating.
