Cirrus Wreck Kills 4 in Rural Illinois

What: Marion Flying Club Cirrus SR-20 en route from Marion Municipal Airport
Where: CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill
When: Nov 26, 2011 10:30am
Who: 4 fatalities
Why: The one-engine Cirrus SR-20 was flying in rainy, overcast conditions when it crashed in a soybean field on a farm unincorporated McHenry County, killing the four aboard the plane. Marion businessman Ray Harris and his daughters Ramie and Shey were killed in the crash, along with one of the girl’s boyfriends. On impact, the plane shattered into debris which was spread over 100 yards. The plane carries a parachute, which had been deployed but it was tangled in a tree, which may have contributed to the wreck.

The pilot, Harris, had been flying one of his daughters back to Wheaton College.

Cirrus Crashes in Poland

What: Cirrus
Where: Katowice International Airport southern Poland
When: Nov 13, 2011
Who: 2 men and 2 women were aboard
Why: After takeoff, the plane disappeared 4.3 miles from the airport.

The wreckage was found in Zyglinie Forest at 8:20 pm. The four passengers all in their late forties and early fifties, died in the crash.

Small Plane Crashes in California Barn

What: Cirrus SR-22 en route from Van Nuys to Parker, Arizona
Where: one mile west of the Agua Dulce Airport
When: October 21, 2010
Who: 3 fatalities
Why: The plane circled before it emerged from clouds, at which time if flew upside down in an uncontrolled spiral. The plane crashed next to a barn a mile short of the airport, exploded on contact; and the remains of those on board are charred and spread across a large debris field. Two horses in the barn were killed, and one was injured but is expected to survive.

The plane was registered to OVATION MANAGEMENT INC.

Small Plane Crash in Phoenix

What: Cirruss S-R 22 single-engine plane in Phoenix
Where: Deer Valley Commerce Park, near 19th Avenue and Deer Valley Road
When: August 4 2010 6:00 a m
Who: pilot
Why: The pilot of the plane was in contact with Deer Valley air controllers prior to the accident but did not radio for help. Apparently the engine had caught fire, and the plane lost altitude. On impact, the plane was engulfed in flame.

The plane with only the pilot aboard crashed not long after takeoff.

The plane was registered to Magneto Investments of Phoenix.

Tuscaloosa Crash Kills Entrepreneur and Anesthesiologist

What: Dagmar Transport LLC Cirrus SR22 GTS en route from the Dominican Republic to Miami to Tuscaloosa Alabama
Where: Tuscaloosa Regional Airport
When: May 10 2010
Who: Pilot and passenger 41 year old Mark Yellen and 56 year old Paula Moffett
Why: Witnesses say that on landing, one of the plane’s wings may have hit the pavement before the landing gear. The single engine plane flipped and crashed twenty-five yards short of the runway.

When 2 planes collided near Boulder Municipal Airport, glider pilot Reuben Bakker flew through the fireball. He and his two passenger were all right; three people were killed. Altitude my have been a factor, as well as the highly technical nature of the Cirrus, which is heavily video-electronic with a blind spot under the plane

It appears that a Piper Pawnee hit the a Cirrus SR-20 from below.

Who: 2
Why: The pilot was attempting to land when he lost control of the aircraft. The aircraft landed on its nose on a grassy area close to the runway. No one was injured in the landing except the plane.

Charlotte Bobcats Co-owner dies in Plane Crash

What: private Cirrus SR22 en route from South Carolina to Teterboro, N.J
Where: Rock Hill airport property just off S.C. 161 in South Carolina just across the state line from Charlotte
When: 7:15 a.m. Friday
Who: Pilot and co-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats 49-year-old William “Skipper” Beck of Charlotte, N.C
Why: Shortly after takeoff, the plane returned, but when attempting to land, crashed and caught on fire. Debris remained at the north end of the runway. Rock Hill airport doesn’t record radio transmissions so there’s no record of whether or not Beck made radio transmissions prior to the crash.

Beck had 390 flight hours, and the plane had 93 hours in the air.

Luke Schiada is the lead ntsb investigator assigned to the crash.

Moncks Corner Plane Crash


What: CIRRUS SR22Fixed Wing Single-Engine owned by CENTENNIAL AVIATION LLC
Where: ATTEMPTED LANDING AT MONCKS CORNER, SC CRASHED SHORT OF THE AIRPORT
When: 01/29/2009
Who: Only the pilot was aboard.
Why: AIRCRAFT REPORTED SMOKE AND FUMES IN THE COCKPIT. THe plane landed short of the airport. THe pilot was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

Cirrus Emergency Landing on Hwy 61


What: Cirrus SR22 on a demo flight over the North Shore
Where: Landed on highway 61
When: Wednesday 12 pm
Who: pilot Justin Krom and two passengers
Why: During the flight the engine apparently threw a rod shortly after takeoff, causing it to lose power. The pilot managed to land on the highway without any injuries.

3 in Cirrus Crash in Green Cove Springs, Florida


What: Cirrus SR-20
Where: Crashed in a wooded, swampy area just west of the runway at Reynolds Park in Green Cove Springs.
When: Wednesday morning
Who: Passenger Yi Jun Zhao, of Palm Coast, was transported to Orange Park Medical Center. Pilot Kevin Black and passenger Jian Feng Guo were not hurt.
Why: The pilot radioed authorities about 7:45 a.m. to report trouble with his throttle. He was attempting a landing at the landing strip along the St. Johns River.

Tallahassee Crash Update


What: Single engine Cirrus SR-22 en route from Columbus, Ohio to heading to Tallahassee Regional Airport
Where: two miles short of the runway on Blue Jay Drive
When: left Columbus at approximately 2:59 pm Thursday; crashed into a house 7:17 p.m
Who: Pilot and passenger Donald Hess and his wife, Victoria, were killed; 2 in the house were taken to the hospital with injuries. Hess was co-founder of Amherst Systems and on theboards of several health science companies
Why: Under investigation.

The plane struck two vehicles in the driveway. Under investigation. 50 homes are out of power as a result of the crash. The plane struck a series of power lines prior to crashing into two vehicles parked in a nearby driveway.
